yes pump does have a housing cap which can be twisted off
If pump itself is shagged it is one of the few parts available for this old MachineRe: smart drive 708

Yep take Out Two caps & screws Lid Off
Hob just Lifts Back Beware of Clips At back of Machine .Reed switch wiring runs Into control panel & connects to Micro switch
To get to microswitch you have to access control panel remove motor controller (Bottom PCB) Note Do not remove Pressure hose(Clear tube) if washer full of water

Cgeck capacitor to be sure
But if the motor itself is seizing UP (hard to turn with belt OFF)thats your problem
if its stalling with belt on Id check your rear drum bearing

Not unusual that motor controller (PCB) can be affected by Pump
or vica versa

Fault code 5 Not a fault code
But from your description Could be the RPS Sensor (numerous threads on this problem )DO A SEARCH.
Can also be a worn or jammed bowl clutch.
Access clutch gear by removing agitator & clutch cover or maybe something jammed between bowls.Re: Kleenmaid KAW651 continues to spin in one direction

Does the washer power up at all?
If So most likely cause is the lid Switch
Lid switch (Reed Switch)located front RHS under the HobRe: Fisher & Paykel ED56-U dryer. Motor appears seized
Id Check motor capacitor First Sits next to motor
Access thru back panel
Not unusual for motor bushes to seize (Have to buy motor complete)
Motor should turn freely by handRe: Kleenmaid KAW651 continues to spin in one direction
Problem can be due to a number of matters
It can be a clutch or brake problem
It can be a faulty gearbox
Or it can be a tImer fault
Hard to pinpoint on this 15-20 year old washer
