    Re: Staggering Really

We all know that there’s a skills shortage,

ironically, I have spent the best part of 3 years trying to get back in to the domestic appliance trade , having many years of multi skilled experience, yet due to my post code, I have had virtually no luck. 😥
I am seriously considering turning my back on a trade that has given me many years of experience and skills . what a waste of 27 years

    where to start…..
    indesit mechanical pumps
    indesit spiders
    hoover mth and gtr timers
    hoover t/t dual control pump
    colston t/t dog clutch
    philips element/toc assy
    philips hn3156 motor clutch
bendix 7147 outer tubs and shockers

i even seem to remember watching in awe as our workbench was being used to repair countless hotpoint motors and modules – a skill i never did pick up completely

simplicity, yet i would pay thousands to go back to the ” good old days ” when i was learning my trade

door interlocks tend to weaken on these, more so if the user is a bit heavy handed and has a tendancy to slam the door.
if you take the interlock out, and check the two sliding plates, make sure they are not twisted, then a squirt of wd40 to make sure they move without binding on each other.
if there is a small pcb in the panel – maybe 2 inches square, this is for the door , and occasionally fails.

dryer is entering an overheat situation if the door opens on its own.
check the heater contactor , as they have a tendancy to stick and allow the elements to stay on all the time. check also the duct isn’t restricted if the contactor is ok.

Re: Loadster gas T/D bitten more than I cld chew

there is an air flow switch ( micro switch with a disc and wire frame work ) fitted near the burner box, designed to prevent the gas valve opening in the event of a duct blockage, or prevent flare up if the door is opened ( check the filter is clean and the filter door is closed properly )
on no account should this be taped closed, or shorted, but for testing purposes, hold the disc in while the unit is running and watch.
if the dryer has a pilot , it is very old and may have faults with the gas valve. any work on the gas side of this should only be done by someone with commercial laundry corgi card.

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

a couple of years ago, while working in the commercial laundry trade, one of my work mates was working on a three phase bolt down washer. as he went to the isolator on the wall to switch power off, his mobile rang from the office – the result was he took the call and then went back to work on the machine, thinking he had switched power off but in fact not actually doing so.
quick actions from the laundry assistant almost certainly saved his life when he stuck across 2 phases. what followed was a period off work for him and a health and safety visit for the company, result of which we were forbidden to take mobiles on site after that, and i still leave both mine in the van now.
life is more precious than the slight possibility of missing speaking to a customer, who will most likely leave a message or ring back anyway.

standard key to get into the service panel on these – think number is zb6 – available from jla 01422 822282 or if you know anyone who has maytag coin op machine, they will have one ( originally, machine will have come with 2 of these keys, so it may be worth getting staff or their office to search in case it has been filed away safely )

Re: Falcon dual fuel range spares

common fault is the door switch, behind the panel under the doors – falcon are up here at larbert in scotland – near falkirk – but spares available from various outlets few around manchester.

    Re: maytag neptune

these have an ” unbalance ” switch attached to the top weight, and on some of the earlier versions there was a second one fitted to one of the rear struts.
worth checking these, as there was a tendancy for the switch to break off. also, dont rely on continuity check through the switches if you are testing – better to link out BUT ONLY FOR TESTING PURPOSES….. dont leave the switches linked out.
another weak point was the pcb in the control panel, fixed to the rear – occasionally you could find dry soldered joint there.
    hope this helps, eddie
