Dont think any of us are dead wood Chris its just in comparison to the amount of time you put in makes us look a bit lacking really. I know you are involvled in a lot of other stuff as well and, to be honest, I dont know how you do it- and make a great job at doing it too.
Do you really think appointing new or more moderators will make a difference in the public forums?

The bottom line is time and how we best spend it on here.

    Re: Rumour/Proposed Vat drop

If this does happen, when would it take effect? surely it would be a logistical nightmare to impose the new rate from, say 6pm tonight but if its done from a date in the future no one is going to buy anything at all until that date cancelling out the desired encouragment to spend. Can anyone remember when the rate changed before and how it was carried out?
and can our accounting software cope with a rate change mid month yet alone mid period or even mid financial year?

Hope you manage to make sense of the correct position of the selector switch/ stat.
You can probably buy the manual as a spare part from servevast.
In the engineers defence, why would he use a test meter to test if the fault is a noisy fan?.

I checked the manual as I have them all on the old service CD but they only describe what the symbols mean and not what position they are in. If the symbols are rubbed off it is not any help.
Must also admit that if it is a hard wired oven then I would not have troubled my meter either….the open toe sandels though are a definate danger sign!

    Re: SMEG UK80MFX cooker info?

Cannot tell you the exact position, but its usually between 1 oclock and 4 oclock. (ie on the opposite side to the fan cooker) Best way to tell is select a position and a temperature and put your hand on the floor of the oven, after a minute or so you should feel some heat seeping through from below.

Not sure if its right for this model but had a heater cutting out before the water gets hot enough. It would run long enough to trick the NTC and PCB into thinking all was ok, hence no error code. Especially so if it is the one with the torpedo inside the heater. If you have changed all you have said then cannot think of anything else really.

there is a whole thread on this subject. I THINK its agood idea, assuming they stick with one board then it means less messing about with different boards and if you do get the diagnosis wrong then it can be used again in another model. Having said that, I think the EMW service is excellent as, only having ordered the replacement yesterday afternoon, I already have an up and running machine. Not saying any more….just in case.
Bare in mind that the Hotpoint cookers now also use the programable module and the smart card reder will fit those as well and how many of us have noticed a blank port plug on the tumble driers these days?

They reported a dead machine, went out no life, lights nothing. Stuck the old module back in (this one only had a spin on wash fault) and away it went. No blow marks on the module. GOing to try my luck with Indesit for a credit as a faulty part (will they want their software back I wonder?? 😆 ) meanwhile, EMW are send me one as a replacement so I can at least passify the customer.
