Derek, maybe next time a Smeg customer calls you, dont take the call and advise them to contact someone who knows about this sort of product.

When the whole family from grandchild to grandfather take turns to come into where you are working and ask what the problem is….you end up explaining that the TOC on their dryer has failed possibly due to this, that or the other only to repeat the whole lot again 30 sconds later. After the 5th time I start to loose my rag and feel like going a bit Basil Fawlty and demand a family gathering (“maybe those long emigrated relations in Australia might like to pop over for this too”) so I only have to explain this once for god sake!

    Re: Diplomat 8242 integrated dishwasher.

Its more than just a reset, take note especially of the part I have marked ** If you do not get this sequence re-start the proceedure again.

The PCB fitted to this appliance is standard on a number of models manufactured by Smeg, some models are
fitted with a flow meter, but the version sold by MFI Howdens joinery will not be fitted with the flow meter.
In cases where a new PCB is fitted or the customer’s property has suffered from a power surge, the PCB will
return to its factory settings, which is to search for a reading from a flow meter, because the MFI Howdens
joinery appliance is fitted with a pressure switch and not a flow meter, the appliance will indicate an E7 fault.
    Fault indication
    Fault error E7 Error signal
    LED combination shown:
First three LED’s flashing, fifth LED ‘On’
There is no functional fault with the PCB or any other component on the appliance,
the PCB has defaulted to the factory settings.
Solution DO NOT REPLACE THE PCB
The engineer will need to enter into a test program sequence to return the PCB to a
pressure switch system and not a flow meter.
    Reset procedure for the PCB
With the door open, turn on the appliance and within three seconds push 4 times on the program selection
button – **The test program has been selected if the SOAK and STRONG LED’s are flashing**
This LED combination represents the test program for the appliances that have a flow meter.
If the above indication is not shown on the appliance, switch the appliance off and try the sequence again
until the above LED’s are shown on display.
Now push on the program button once more to select the version ‘without flow meter’, check that the SOAK
LED goes out, and the display is indicated as below.
Do not close the appliance door, to complete settings switch the appliance off.
Now switch the appliance ‘on’ and test on a SOAK program.
It is possible for this fault to exist on earlier models, if the appliance has had a PCB replaced with the latest
    version. (earlier model are ADP8112 & 8132).

Re: Diplomat ADP8322 D/W Door Hinges

Usually just the pins that the hinges rest on are bent, remove door (springs and bands in side panels first, probably on the verge of breaking anyhow) and lift off the door. Use mole grips and bend the pins back so they are parrallel to the front of the dishwasher. IMO just changing hinges make no difference whatsoever.

    Re: Formula One

Yep, most of you know that I am into my car racing, but F1 has never been exactly my favorite avenue however. But the Lewis Hamilton story is just amazing. If this was a hollywood film script I would be slagging it off as being an unbelivable and impossible plot.
Must admit I feel a bit gutted about him though as I spotted a few lines in the club area at the back of Autosport many years ago about this young child Lewis Hamilton and that his career had attracted the interest of Maclaren boss Ron Dennis and I have followed his career ever since. Whats maddenning is that I only told a few people at the time, and since, and they seem to have forgot that I mentioned this now that this HERO has suddenly arrived from nowhere. How I with I put his name in a sealed envelope back then and given it to someone for safe keeping (or even a bet with a bookie!) only to ask them to open it now.
What is great about him though is that he has done his apprentship properly, unlike Raikkenen (straight into F1 from formula Renault) for example. After karting Lewis may have took the conventional route Formula ford and Renault but then he was placed in the Euroseries Formula 3, a master stroke that left him out of the British limelight and he did take a couple of seasons there to find his feet, winning in the second year and then on to GP2 which he won in spectacular style.
Yes he has had the breaks and has not had to search out for sponsorship like some of his rivals but even Ron Dennis stuttereed about backing him in F3, only renewing the association at the last minute before the start of the season. A lot of other drivers with similar abilities have fallen by the wayside without such backing.
The future… I dont know. I dont see any real comparisons with Senna and his god will protect him atitude. and remember he has yet to finish a race not on the podium, one wonders when that day comes will his confidence take a batterring and then there may be the backlash- Steve Davis/Shuey style about the sport becoming boring if one guy keeps winning. For now though it is great for the UK and the sport in general…I kind of wish he was a bit more…err less corperate maybe… a few dreadlocks maybe?

I think covering up the front of the condenser on their later driers is a massive design fault.. Almost impossible for us to clean them out yet alone the customer.

I have a local school that has asked me to check out a BEKO dishwasher that has failed a PAT test on “leakage current”.

The appliance is perfectly ok with any test that I can perform with a 500v Meggar.

I have heard of this before but never been able to resolve the problem.

Does a PAT tester test earth leakage current at 50Hz?

    Bob

The basic ones dont test earth leakage but the more advanced do. Even then it is awkward as they run the machine for a few seconds in order to test it which is fine for a kettle but makes waiting for interlocks to engage and pressing start buttons almost impossible. AFAIK earth leakage does not need to be tested as far as PAT testing is concened only insulation and earth bond. Loads of ‘our’ appliances will fail earth leakage tests if that was the case.
