i dunno, i wanted a element asap n/d/d was £7 or royal mail was like £2.
the n/d/d didnt turn up cos it was daftly sent royal mail. customer obviouslynot best pleased and never came for it. so i said to QTX it was your fault not mine and customers gone elsewhere. now i have an element i cant sell. would you liek it back ? we eventually settled on me keeping element without any postage. it seemed to suit both parties as this was a new build where theres a good chance that element will be put to use in another one of the other 23 or so flats!

big dogs are lovely, esp the german shepards and bulldogs. its even funnier when one of your crew starts to get mounted by some massive dog – cant remember the breed but it was white and bigger than a g/s with long hair. u want to save them but its too funny to watch. [ps] i know thats wrong

lee get in bed with a local retailer of new goods.
if you get to an appliance and find that its gonna go over your initail quote you can then offer the customer the option of getting xyz appliance of abc company for £987 without a call out cost if she orders it from you. you then process the order with the local retailer and get an agreed kick back from it. this is obv assuming you havent got access to new appliance directly?
have found if customer if offered the call out to be written off with a new appliance sourced by you theyre more inclined to go ahead with the repair because it becomes a shot to nothing. too many customers are shying away for a £50 or £60 diagnosis of bad news, esp where really theyre just after confirmation they have a lump of scrap.

ParticipantRe: Bad Payers
beware of the 28 day scam too.
have had 2 customers threaten under their “rights” to a refund because an appliance was “faulty” they were due to a full refund.
hotpoint didnt help things one time by giving the customer an uplift code. OVER THE PHONE, without an engineers visit.
in this instance they buy the appliance, get you to deliver it, use it for exactly 27 days. report the problem after 27 days to you, and at the same time to manufacturer. both you the retailer and manufacturer tell them they need an engineers visit first. however they then go back to the manufacturer and bullsh!t them into giving out an exchange code because they arent happy with the service from the retailer. they then come in and demand a refund, claiming although the appliance has been used, because the manufacturer has now given them authorisation for a return the manufacturer has aknowledged appliance is faulty. customer refuses an exhange, and wont leave till received full refund, and also make a point of the “anguish” you have caused them (by not replacing it day it went wrong) immediately you get another customer in the shop as leverage to get the refund if you initially refuse.
they seem to think that because hotpoint are taking it back its not affecting the retailer. no. not the 20-30mins it takes to deliver and check its working, or the 15 minutes to pick it back up. the 2 days i didnt have stock of that model that i could have sold to someone else who i missed out on that sale to, and the fact its now water damamged because customers put it outside (i guess cos the next fool has delivered a new machine) which then causes even more friction with the distributor when youve sent it back holding up a credit whilst they speak to the manufacturer. GRRR.

ParticipantRe: They dont build em like that anymore – Part 20
went to work on one of those bellings if its the 3 ring type cos it was tripping out. circa 1950s too.
turned out all the insulation on the wiring had basically either turned to dust or crumbled off (this was her only cooker) and had begun to arc. it had a totally completely beautiful external condition tho.
thing was she was looked after by carers who hated it, and barclays who were the attorneys in law or whatever who had control over her funds declined any repair because a new indesit s/o was only £180 from comet or something at the time.
so, after bidding farewell, it went to the scrap heap. as much as we would have liked to rewire it, belling werent interested in having it back. youd think theyd have some kind of “museum” or “belling thru the ages” room at their posh new showroom in enfield.

ParticipantRe: Qualtex van delivery
i thought qtx van delivery was always mininum on £50 even before christmas? in fact i thought it was that way ever since the MAS bit of the tradename was dropped.
although i didnt think it was strictly enforced cos if u were a regular customer (i.,e delivery every week) and most weeks it was over £60 but one week it was less like say 35 or 40, then discretion would be used.
i think a polite “hey ive noticed this unusual charge” should be inserted into your next conversation with your depot’s manager 🙂

dare i say it. but if money really is that tight, hunt down a statesman xd-400 from a local independant. should be able to get it for about £250 as a box with 2 years warranty
or if you want a name, try a beko. basic, but slightly better than the indesits…personally id save another £100 and get a bosch too tho.

daveandjack wrote:Hotpoint DY330G as this seems to be the only one which includes a variable gas grill (which we think is important) and fan cooling
Fan cooling across the board on belling stoves and new world, and if hotpoint have confirmed it, on the dy330 too.
daveandjack wrote: I don’t know why, but I feel really uneasy about the New World/Belling/Stoves ovens – of the few reviews I’ve found, I found some really bad ones about Stoves and they’re the top range.
stay away from the stoves rotostar. its great in theory, and awesome when they work, but when even one of GDHA’s topline “super” engineers tells you theyre still trying to find a solution to the complicated electronics that overheat for the rotostar ovens, then id wait till theyre happy.
what you really have to remember is that the majority of people who go to the effort of writing reviews off their own back, are people who have experienced problems and wish to express their frustration at having a prblem. for the last 4 or 5 years stoves, belling and new world have been the only brands with a 870-900mm gas oven on the market, so lets say, choice has been somewhat limited – especially if you didnt want s/s, so there wouldnt be much competition to compare a similar oven to.
hotpoint dallied with the dy230x around ’04-’05, and then for some reason it stopped.
ok belling stoves and new worlds are known to have the occasional cooling fan failure. however i would be dubious that the hotpoint electronics are any more reliable, based on all their other appliances.
when it comes to warranty the stoves and the hotpoint should both come with a 1 years p&l warranty, and an additional extra 4 years parts warranty when registered.
should you have a problem between year 2 and 5 with your hotpoint ive been told by them the parts are free but you pay a call out (£108~) and also an hourly rate, unless you underwrite the extra 4 years parts warranty with their extended guarantee…
should you have a problem, in or out of warranty, gdha (who look after the belling and stoves brands) will do a call out, for approx £150 including first hours labour and parts are f.o.c. also they will warranty the repair for a year against an identical parts failure for that price
compare this with hotpoints £108 callout and £40-something for first hours labour, it seems to be the better option, and even more so should it be over 5 years old.
the sad truth tho is that you want a gas built in oven, so your choice is horribly restricted. its a toughie, i personally sourced a stoves when my relative was faced with the same choice and she loves it.
daveandjack wrote:On a related note, does anyone know if its possible to install this type of double unit in a tall appliance cupboard and still have room to mount an integrated microwave above it at a sensible height?
should be doable but your biggest issue is that the oven will be rather low in order to facilitate safely reaching into the microwave. consider microwaving a meal and the plate has got hot and its head height. your instant reaction will be to drop it. should you have a heated liquid or sauce it will almost certainly fall on you as well.
so from a safe and practical point of view, built in microwave over the oven only really if the oven is a single and not double format!
besides integrated m/w are one of the biggest cash cows for the manufacturers, so if you go double, as theyre not great value for money, might be worth having a table top panasonic.

ParticipantRe: Diplomat Select ADP 1130 Gas Hob Replacement
as far as im aware, stoves were one of the last to produce blue appliances, however might be worth speaking to sparkwork on 01626 834666
they were having a bit of a hob clear out a week ago. might still have somethign available?
but yes, black white or s/s are now seem to be the only colours being produced at a reasonable cost. even brown is pretty much discontinued everywhere, and the handful of companys who would still manufacture appliances in different colours have gone on a temporary production hiatus until the economic downturn shows a marked and significant upturn. even black and white appliance production runs had been reduced by major brands, which caused temporary shortages on stock!
there are gas in glass hobs available, but they are mainly black, and a couple of white ones.
as far as i know anything in blue is likely to be well and truly discontinued anyway, so its worth remembering spares will be more restricted than a current model anyway. and it might be worth considering first whether a black white or s/s oven would look best, prior to any hob purchase, in case (im assuming you have a matching blue diplomat oven) the oven gives up soon after youve spent a lot of time and effort tracking down and then fitting a blue hob.
in which case, say if you then buy a s/s hob it would then be easy to tie in any future oven purchase because you can get a s/s oven to match!

e20 should be a drain problem, it might only be a week old but there may be an obstruction in or before the pump…
incidentally what was your last machine and roughly how old was it?
