hotpoint wt 540. lady has been given machine from a friend, who said it was working ok. symptom is power on. lights 1.2.3.4. counting from top to bottom flash ,and also the final spin light and the on/off light. upon inspection discovered that the 3 pin plug had been wired wrong ie.live to neutral, neutral to live. i am presuming this may be a board fault, but dont know which board may be dodgy, if any.
    any help most appreciated

If it “was working OK” before was it that the new owner changed the plug or had it always been like that?
If the latter, then it could be the 680uf on the main board. See “Simple PCB repairs” sticky. Worth looking at that in either case.

That explains why they didn’t have time to file down the sharp edges. 🙂

Door latch plate? Is that the curved bit with two screw holes and a lens that fits to the cabinet? I’ve got a couple of those (white) in my “general detritus box” ( 😆 ) from kits where they weren’t needed. (Hate throwing stuff away.) Could send you one no charge. Post tomorrow, if you pm me by about 10am.

    Re: Patching a holed tub

I once fixed a hole about 10mm in dia. on the top of a WMA tub with a similar product. Six months or so later the plug had jumped out, water had trickled down and got into motor and blew up the board. (At least I assume that’s what happened, given the plug had come out.) I’m wary now.

    Re: Whirlpool Diplomat ADP8322 Flowmeter.

Just did my first Whirlpool dishwasher flowmeter job yesterday. Machine was giving a definite 7 flashes but customer didn’t seem able to count this for themselves :rolls: , otherwise I might have been able to do it in one visit.
Anyway, I am very grateful to you guys here for sharing the info and to UKW for providing the platform. I would really have been flummoxed without the info, especially as machine was built into tight corner requiring disconnect and drag out to work on.
My post above states that farnell does free delivery. This is no longer true unless you have a £20 order. RS however are still doing free delivery. It may be necessary to open an account but this is very simple and they never hassle you to buy more! (I’ve spent only about £50 in five years and never had more than one phone call in all that time.)
Reed switch I used is RS p/no. 229-3692. 52p. Delivery by parcelforce next day included in price even if you just buy one.

    Re: Patching a holed tub

Trouble with stuff like that is it sets hard and inflexible. The plastic tub meanwhile is slightly flexible. I wouldn’t trust it unless the machine is in a place where leakage could do no harm. Could even be worth calling manufacturer and checking with them exactly what plastics it will stick to. Bet they won’t be up for paying compensation!

    Re: Bosch WFL2260UK/04

If customer can wait for a couple of days (I know that’s the difficult bit), and you have the time, why not do a few simple tests on the pcb yourself? If brushes going down caused this, which is likely, then you could just be looking at replacing motor triac or perhaps a relay; both easily checked. If you find something, and repair it, you get a buzz and you charge appropriately for your expertise.

    Re: capacitor

As long as it’s physically small enough to fit and the uF rating is same or very near, I don’t think it matters if the voltage rating is larger. That is really just an upgrade.

    Re: Zanussi ZWD 16581W

Check for insulation resistance below 40 Megohm on dryer element. If it’s not that, try same test on wash element. (See service manual pp. 84 & 86 or thereabouts.) Washer should work OK if you disconnect dryer element.
