❓ 😕
If you read my first post more carefully you’ll find that I never believed that they are anything more than a “placebo.” That doesn’t mean I accept your claims that they ruin clothes.
Or is your remark something to do with my new signature?

ParticipantRe: How much would you pay …….?
I’ve been looking at the retail prices of a Zan lock (the one with the solenoid) today, wondering what’s a fair price to the customer. Reading comments from customers on espares how they’re all 5 star pleased to pay £28.99 + del. and they’ve seen them so much more dear elsewhere.(E-spares have a best price guarantee.. if you see it cheaper elsewhere etc. [excl. ebay]..). Lux want £32 approx from their site. Connect are £15 trade. Masterpart 2x for £9.90ea. E-bay sellers knocking them out for around £12/14.
Meanwhile, shop@ £19.99.
Wonder if I should open a parts shop? Make some money. 😆

😆 A masterful piece of understatement.
As for me, I’m not bothered enough to argue about it or even bother googling around for scientific research papers which I haven’t got the patience to read. Must say I’m a bit suspicious of anyone seen in the vicinity of a laboratory in the light of recent scandals though 😆
However, at least £2.99 is a lot less than £29.99 so the market is sorting out a fairer price in the end.

Possible tacho problem. Think motor is a Sole type, like some Zanussi. There is also a transformer & bridge rectifier board in the base, not sure why.

ParticipantRe: Hoover HSPF167 buzzing noise (over phone).
Went to this on Friday. Luckily, had done a search here beforehand and finding this thread discovered that I had an unused new board for it in stock!
Got there, switched on and the thing began to work. She said, “I tried a dozen times and it wouldn’t do that for me.” Anyway, turned out there was no life from the motor. Checked it over and found o/c toc. bridged it temporarily and tried again, still no m/a. Went to coreboard and found burn mark around a relay foot but it looked like a difficult one as there were four or more miniscule tracks running to it on the print side.
Changed to new board and away it went. Have to go back with new toc next week.

I had a go at one with blown lock triac and two small smd’s close to it but it was wasted effort, had to get one from the Edinburgh Woollen Mill in the end.
No, sorry, it was E.M.W.

How do they ruin clothing, Ken?
Seems to me they “work” for some people who try them simply because they’re people who very seldom actually get their clothes dirty.
In saving such people money on detergent, and the NHS money due to savings in prescriptions for skin damage due to detergent overdosing/insufficient rinsing due to lack of filter cleaning, I’d say on the whole they’re a good thing. But if you can provide some real evidence for your claim of clothes damage then I’d be prepared to revise my opinion.
(This forum isn’t sponsored by a detergent manufacturer, is it, so I think I can speak freely.)

Thanks for the warning garn. I’ll be taking special care around farms from now on.
Hope you feel better very soon.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Motor TOC
As these machines are frequently BER’d for other reasons, I’d be surprised if there weren’t a surfeit of secondhand motors around. Can’t see any on e-bay at the moment but you could post a request in Trade Spares. I’d be surprised if no-one’s got one.

Right angled pliers for me. Mine are about ten inches long 8) .
Can depress the tab and grab the body of the holder in one action.
Also useful for closing various door seal clamps as they open very wide. Useful for difficult to access hose clips too.

ParticipantRe: Condensation in back of van
Maybe you could stick a VTD00P in the back and run it on a timeswitch for a short period without a load. It should draw in air from the van and dry it. ❓ 😆
