Had another look last week. Removed “OWI” and found a diaphragm operated microswitch so it’s obviously not an OWI but something to sense water pressure. Seemed to be intact and switch working fine so put it back.
Anyway, looked at door loom and disp. solenoid, no evident faults there.
Pulled out circuit board and examined for dry joints etc. None found. Re-installed board and tried machine again. This time it started a wash OK. Left it going and told customer to try it for a few washes and report back. She’s been on the phone this morning saying it’ll do a rinse but not a full prog.
I’m wondering about that 85kohm for the ntc. Think I’ll go back and try a Merloni ntc in it’s place and see what happens.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like you might have cut the seal on the sharp edge of the heater aperture. 🙁

I think I would have told them it just isn’t safe to run a machine like that and that I wouldn’t want the responsibility of repairing it until the electrics were properly sorted. I mean, in the worst case scenario would your PLI cover you?

💡 Why don’t they have representatives of PRS standing on every street corner recording the number plates of those pr**ks who think that every one of us shares their taste for loud booming rap.

Thanks Jim, Will post links with amazingly apt and witty epithets from now on. 😆

They haven’t invented the lap top detector van yet have they?
I’ve always wondered just how much power they have. I would think that to find out whether you had been watching (live) online they would have to be allowed access to your history/registry. Since you can clear those anytime you like, I think they’d have problems catching anyone. But there’s no need to cheat anyway. It’s quite legal to watch a programme from any channel that does a web service as long as you watch only after it’s broadcast.
Save yourselves £140 a year. How many programmes are worth watching anyway? I wouldn’t bother if it wasn’t free.
Mike.
PS. It’s more convenient to watch recorded programmes anyway because you can pause, skip the dull bits, watch when you’ve got a mo. etc.leavemetogetonwithit

Thanks Jim. How is that done please? So I can do it myself next time.

Dumb people want to buy a brand new machine and stick it in a damp shed! Think they’re heading for more problems there; hope Indesit, Haier, Beko etc. have got clauses in their warranties against damage caused by externally sourced damp.

Mike. Not true, check it out. The law was changed recently to ‘any device that is capable of displaying a TV picture will need a TV licence.’ This includes PC’s, mobile phones, PDA’s etc. Although having a home TV license covers all of the above.
You had me just slightly worried for a minute! So I checked their own site. BBC iPlayer

I’ve had two letters in the last month both of which went straight in the recycling. They’re almost as bad as the b***** TV licensing lot. It’s a sort of spam, they send out millions and hope a few mugs will cough up.

Could door striker not be engaging fully with interlock? What happens when interlock operated manually?

Never seen one of these but if it’s just a jammed relay, it shouldn’t be too difficult to repair ❓ . RS, Maplin, CPC – one of them has probably got suitable replacements.

aqua_serve wrote:As a relative newbie can you confirm whether I can check to see whether it is the triac?
Mark, if there was no sign of damage on the board (and that could mean a small chip blown off the corner of a triac’s plastic body) then you could check the triacs with a test lamp but it’s a job that you need to do at a comfortable workbench with various sized croc clips for connecting up and even then you need to know a bit about how they work. I’m sure you could get all the info on the web if that’s how you want to spend your time and it makes sense if work is short. However, Tony’s offer of £5 + vat to test it is a good one, though it’ll cost you about £40? if he can repair it. He may find that it is unrepairable and return it to you. That is also a result because you then know. And some Hoover modules are only £55/60? from Gias retail.
