    Re: Hotpoint 9926A

I have sometimes separated the still good shaft gripping bit from an old knob and fixed it to the dial of the broken knob using small cable ties through holes drilled in the plastic. There are arrows in the plastic labelled A,B,C which make lining up easy.

Re: Beko WMA1512S low water level

Never had to do it myself but I understand that p/switches are adjustable although it’s fiddly. An alternative might be to splice a length of thicker hose into the pressure hose.

    Amazin’ Dave. Thanks for that.
Where else could you find this sort of info, especially at gone midnight?
Maybe the hose is cheese flavoured? 🙂

Not necessarily. I had a problem a while back where they kept sending kits with 2 stats in instead of one stat and one t.o.c. These were genuine HPT kits.
Also there may be other sources for a new thermostat (RS for example who will send even one small item carriage free – saves making up a big order).

Would the area where the tab is be accessible through the sump hose hole or soap hose hole?

If I applied such selectiveness to what I would work on then I think I would have to extend my territory considerably to get enough work.
However I do see your point and I do turn away some work these days because I can’t find the time/energy to do it all.

in reply to: Hoover Washer/Drier Worn heater casing. Part Obsolete #172336

Re: Hoover Washer/Drier Worn heater casing. Part Obsolete

Presumably the element was originally touching the casing where it was held and this did not cause excessive heat transfer to the casing. IMO, since wire is round it will not have a large contact surface with the element and there won’t be a problem. I’m sure you won’t need to use much wire, just a bit where the original clip would have been to keep the element in position midway(?) between the upper and lower casings.

Went back to a W113 the other day after having replaced module and pump and then customer rang about banging noise and I began to think, “Oh no, not spider now!”
Turned out to be suspension leg bottom end had cracked cabinet (very thin metal) just like 95 Hotpoints did. Will be going back with improvised restraint bracket.

In similar situations I have wrapped some thick wire round things to stop rattles. Of course the wire will rust but it’ll be a long time.

Would have thought the “string” was pretty vital if the spiral is going to be kept in line and not wander off and short to the metal plate. Sounds to me like you’ve opened up a can o’ worms. At what point do we say it’s too old?(Can’t be much fun working in a dark old shed 🙁 ).

in reply to: Hotpoint Door Seals #172151

    Re: Hotpoint Door Seals

I think the 0072 was the “production” version superceded by the 006 which is thicker rubber and presumably more resistant to the wear caused by the seal rubbing against itself or the lock, hinge and plastic front clip rivet. (But is it? Or is the greater flexibility of the thinner seal an advantage?Or am I just a sad old git?). Sometimes I come across seals which seem to be slimy to the touch. Finally it dawned on me that a more experienced engineer had been there before and coated the seal with something to reduce the abrasion. Have since sometimes applied petrol jelly but not sure it works.

If they’re the sort of customer with a personalised registration on the drive it’s best to get your Dremel out and give Nature a helping hand 😉 .

Re: Drum support failure… Do I win a prize?

One of my customers was getting me to fit a new spider on his 95 series every 2 years or so. Last time he suggested varnishing the new one before installation 💡 . He did it himself while I was getting the old one out. He used some Ronseal wood varnish which was all he had in his shed at the time. Seems like some time ago this happened; more than 2 years I reckon. Water’s very soft here.
