Ah! OK so now this means I do have to check the relays after all, which is what I had intended to do before the magnet was suggested. Hmm. Shall I do it tomorrow or carry on with my packing and do it when I get back? Have to see what time is left when I’ve done packing.
“sk1”, Is that 2k1? No, just looked, there’s nothing there. 6k1 I take it? Did you find a 6.3A fuse like the original?
    Compliments on the pic!

Great news. Thanks Don. Perhaps the availability of the part is a sort of confirmation of the likelihood of this happening.

(Doh!) Cheers for that. Indeed it did seem to start up a little too quickly when it did come on. Presumably, electronics are not expecting such quick movement at that stage and recognise there’s a problem. Maybe it was already spinning fast when initial crack occurred to magnet and electronics were not able to effect a halt quickly enough. Will return to it in 2/3 weeks’ time. Meanwhile, do Miele do magnet as spare or is it complete motor only ?

Re: Uploaded by Apart4u to Youtube

I watched the whole ten minutes. I thought it was pretty well done, notwithstanding the heavy weather he makes of getting the suspa pins out and the lack of any mention of safety testing.
So what is this thread about? Are you guys worried you’re losing trade from this? I don’t think there’s any need to worry. For one thing, the potential DIYer has to find that video. Secondly, he has to know how to handle tools, otherwise he’s going to give up half way and call you out to rescue him. (I know, it’s a pain. But you can just walk away and he’ll have learned his lesson.)
And the video was uploaded over a year ago and has yet to receive a single comment. 25,000 views yes, but how many of them actually got beyond the first 20 seconds without dying of boredom? And if they did go on to view parts 2, 3, & 4, I think they deserve a medal! If the subsequent parts are as long as the first, then that’ll be about 40 minutes. More time than most people have got to think about how they’re going to deal with a washing machine breakdown. (Plus the hours it will have taken them to find the info. they actually need.)
When was it Chris did his infamous Bosch brush change vid? At that time, I must admit I wasn’t too happy about it. But I can see now that it hasn’t affected my turnover one penny!

Even such a small earth leak as 40 megohms. Try m/c with dryer element disconnected to confirm.
Further thought though, door doesn’t usually click open in these cases, IIRC. Worth checking recirculation pump if present, if above doesn’t sort it.

You can get similar ones about half the price elsewhere but dunno whether quality as good. Though Amazon reviews for yours suggest there may be batch variation. As well as these I also carry them yellow gripper gloves for shifting machines about. They’re cheap, tough, and they grip!

    Re: Evening gents ..

Does this mean some employer / work provider is offering you a “job” but is trying to dodge their employer responsibilities by you declaring yourself as self-employed?
The best people to ask would be a tax office / helpline. You don’t need to tell them who you or your potential employer is, if you don’t want to; you can stay anonymous if you wish – it’s just a general enquiry. 😉

Re: AEG tumble dryer T56740 trips RCD after 8 minutes

The original report of prrr > cut out > cool down > restart would point to a toc, maybe in motor windings. Could try changing uF if there is one. Wonder if Mr has (un)/intentionally bypassed toc? Is motor getting hot?

    Re: Spam

Sort of off-topic, in a way, but just wondered if anyone else was experiencing numerous spam e-mails of late purporting to originate from various courier firms and having attachments. I’ve not opened any but they keep coming. Nothing to do with old UKW site I hope, where my e-mail may have been semi-public?

Re: Couldn’t quite make up my mind whether this should go in

Nah, keep the work down for now. Going away for a bit on Monday. Make the most of the weather.

It’s the thought of someone believing that could handle an 18 kW load. Hope I don’t come across any of my customers using one 😯 .

in reply to: LG WD-80130F WM intermittant starting #352483

Re: LG WD-80130F WM intermittant starting

Do they have dampness in Cyprus too? It sounds to me like the tactile switches behind the fascia are playing up. They corrode internally and go intermittent. You can get new switches in small quantities from ebay or from any electronics supplier. Probably be surface mounted if it’s a late model. Soldering fiddly but not that bad. Or price up new fascia board.
But look also at main board, you might find a visibly deteriorating capacitor (not necessarily an electrolytic) there.

Might get time to go back there tomorrow. Thanks for the tip. Will update when done.
