Have you had a really good look at door sw? replace or pop cover off & take a peek, contacts seem prone to carbon build up.

I find very few customers can make a cuppa i consider drinkable, but i am very fussy when it comes to beverages.

My very favorite drinks dispensing punter is called June, a very pretty yummy mummy in her early 40’s, countless cups of real frothy coffee made without being asked.. god i wish i could swap the wife for her.. 😯

I agree, i know EMW have been very fair on price, hardly changing them for years, but i find you now have to get around £100 for the average panel now to make the job worthwhile.

I’m seriously thinking of simply not bothering with any of the Merloni boards now, cant be bothered any more :rolls:

    Re: customers rights ??

And he is operating within consumer law i would say Martin. A local car parts store i visit has the very same wording on large signs at the counter, & has done for many years.
I would have thought trading standards would have put an end to it had it been outwith the law.

I think basically if a customer has been supplied with the correct part in perfect condition he’s stuck with it, though it may make good business sense to refund a loyal punter who has made a genuine mistake i guess.

Of course you can see why the wonderful British public think they can swan into a shop 27 days after buying something & demand a refund.. because all the national chains positively encourage them to do so.

The customer is ALWAYS right though :rolls:

I would find out about discharge rates on anything with an ultracap. This is the one area where lithium ion really scores. My cordless lithium drill can sit around for months and still retain 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} charge. 😯

Its been a patchy year, no mistake. Strange thing is, in the recession of the ’90s i was very busy, with people hanging on to their machines & getting them repaired.

So if they are now replacing a problem appliance rather than repairing, why are the sheds moaning sales are down around 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}? A washer , cooker or a fridge are an absolute necessity & we all know they are certainly going wrong just as much as they ever have… all very confusing 😯

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

just occasionally you meet a customer you are glad to let meddle.. though not with the machine in my case.
T’was late last fri, last job of the day, putting a motor back on an Indesit I overestimated the torque those poxy plastic ‘nuts’ would take, one shattered & i was rewarded with a badly slashed finger pouring blood on her oak floor. The rear cabinet opening had an edge you could shave with :rolls:

Did my punter faint or moan about the mess i was making? not a bit of it, a very professional first aid kit was plucked from the cupboard & soon i was disinfected, splinted & bandaged & told to straight to casualty as she thought it may need “a wee stitch”. Turned out it needed several.

In all the excitement i forgot to get paid, but she got my address from the yellows & turned up that evening with the cash 😛

What have i learned from this? well i HATE Merloni products more than ever 👿 but it does prove there ARE a lot of nice people out there even though some weeks you dont seem to meet any 😉

    Re: Petrol Is Cheaper?

Yep, its about half the price of Diesel. Tempting, but being a cynical old soul, i have a feeling Mr Darling would just jack the duty up if we all switched to it in large numbers.

To be honest, id miss the torque of my chipped turbodiesel. 😉

i dont get that a day

helo, didnt mean to cause any jealousy with my £80 earner 😉 and no, £60 profit is not to to be sniffed at. What i was trying to say (while in the back garden tipsy on ice cold beer) was £80 is about the max i can get for any washer repair these days & with 70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of bearing jobs needing a spider as well, it soon turns into a lot of work for little money.

Its a real shame cos i always found it a satisfying job to do properly.

ANYWAY, this is a tech thread so im gonna go now! 😆

PS. I think i prised £80 from her for my trouble, about what i was getting for similar jobs 10 yrs ago! Its hardly worth the hassle these days IMO.

That one has the later 6 kg drum i think, last one i did a few weeks ago, had to take drum out through top, bit of a wriggle, took about an hour & half to complete. spider was fine to reuse as miracle of miracles, she had actually called me before the bearings collapsed.

I got bearings as kit , cant remember where 😳 (gettin old) shop@ have them for £20 odd if youre stuck 😉

Too true p45, what can we expect from a major appliance shipped half way round the world & retailed for a couple of hundred? not much, thats what.

Whats to blame? The corporate greed of the ‘flog anything if it makes a pound’ sheds, the chavy tight fisted section of the British public who will still be expecting to get a machine for £200 in ten years time no doubt..probably a bit of both i guess.

As you say though, the Chinese CAN build a quality product if they are paid to do so, the nightmare scenario IMO is this price driven tat coming to dominate the market & major appliances ending up like most vacs, microwaves,DVD players do at the first breakdown.. skip fodder. 😥
