ParticipantRe: How easy is it to get inside my Hotpoint DWF40
Access to any area of a DWF40 will require the removal of one or more panels with a pozidrive screwdriver…that’s it!
Caution is required when dealing with suspect Rodent damage as a small mouse can access all areas of the machine without a screwdriver. It therefore will be necessary to inspect all areas for chewed pvc cables, rubber hoses and insulation materials within. 🙁

What business are you in Tony? Run a Charity Shop do you?
Never heard of such a thing and legally there are no grounds for them to ask for a refund whatsover, and therefore you don’t have to either.
It’s up to you but I personally would show them the door!

They can be a nightmare in all honesty, obviously you need to set the dial on a black dot then press and hold start for about 5 secs to let it clear. Very often though the earlier beasts play spaghetti hoops with the dial ’til you go giddy, disconnecting and reconnecting the slave timer sometimes works? Don’t count on it though as the pre-existing fault may have to be sorted first (i.e New Motor, Element etc etc)
If all else fails, tell your customer to right a note to Santa and walk away from it going Ho! Ho! Ho! 😆

You need to press and hold in the Start/Pause Button for at least 5 seconds to hopefully clear it?

As it’s 10 years old, it could be that the water container (connecting the internal drain hose with the external drain hose) it badly crudded up 💡
When the machine drains it should pump out water at a fair rate, I suspect yours is very slow to drain? Thus the machine ‘times out’ and the Prewash light comes on!
Just a thought 😉

Plus another weight at the front of the tub (below the porthole) held on with 3 bolts 😉

The water container assembly will need stripping and cleaning. The pump hose to that container will also need attention. Most likely a build-up of fluff and gunge causing the blockage, easily sorted by a local engineer to service it for you (see link below) 🙂

My initial thoughts are that the inner drum shaft may have failed and/or the drum bearings have (or both). If you can feel and lateral play coming from the inner drum (up and down movement of the shaft) then that’s your problem 🙁
The cost to repair this is prohibitive and therefore uneconomical for the most part. However, if it really is just 13 months old I would suggest you contact Indesit directly and ask that they advise? Because for such a major breakdown at just 13mths has to be regarded legally as unreasonable service life and worthy of a major financial compromise by Indesit towards getting it repaired or indeed replaced ❗

Many of us fall foul of this one (wife says yes, husband later says no) and often the job is cancelled after you have ordered the part. Expensive to return both in postage and wholesalers handling charges 🙁
As you say Mowerman, you can always ask for cash up front or even charge a ‘non-refundable deposit for non stock items’ is a better alternative to consider. Very often I allow a ‘cooling off period’ on jobs such as this by not ordering the part on the day. I advise my customer to have a word with hubby when he comes home and if you want me to go ahead, then ring me if they want me to order the part.

I think you’ll find a shop open in Brum, make sure they supply the correct belt size (like for like) and make sure it is a special s-t-r-e-t-c-h belt (MAEL type) as well 😉

New Heating Element is most likely required, not an expensive job for an expert to do for you (see below) 🙂

There are several 8mm Hex screws that hold the rear cabinet half in place. These have to be removed to gain clear access to the drum pulley. If you are the least bit unsure and need expert help, then click the link below 😀
