Re: Amusing Anecdotes & Other Tales

    Reading through this recent thread:-

    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ic&t=10258

…reminded me of the customer who bought a labrador puppy and was very concerned that it wouldn’t eat she took it to the vet. The vet gave the pup the all clear but suggested she try a different dogfood. Again he refused to eat or drink and was getting weaker and weaker, she returned to the vet.

The vet kept the dog for a few days for observation and found it eat and drank heartily all the while it was with him? He concluded it was not the food the dog objected to but possibly where he was being offered food? He suggested she try feeding her dog in another location within the household, which she did and he eat with relish and grew into a strapping healthy dog.

It was several months later that she got a shock off the dishwasher and called me out, that she then sussed the source of the dogs troubles 😆

Getting new hinges is not that costly plus it may need yet another element if it’s slow to heat up? Either that or the door is not sealing correctly and heat is escaping 😕

Go for the obvious Mike before fretting over the Module (last place to look actually 😉 )

Valve open circuit? Overheat stat? NTC open circuit or earth fault on it? Trace the wiring back to source?…all good fun 🙂

    Re: Candy Washing Machine.

An email address is unlikely to help you as they almost certainly will fail to respond. Best get a relative in the UK that can get it for you and post it on to you in OZ 💡

Re: Hotpoint Aquarius WD420 not heating

The part you need is a ‘One-shot Thermostat’ (Part No: 1605160 cost about £5) and the other is the main temperature sensing ‘Thermistor’ 🙂

I would querie why the one-shot failed though and may need a bit of expert TLC to establish the cause?….see below for help

Re: WD420 Not heating 240v at element. Element has continuit

Marcos wrote:I have 240 V at the terminals of the heating element and have continuity through the element measuring 35 ohms, does this sound about the right resistance?

The resistance reading is about right (2 different types of element fitted to this model, both vary).. But if you have power to that element and it still doesn’t heat, clearly it’s got to be faulty 😕

It’s a 3 legged black transistor like device on the module board 😉

The motor’s ‘capacitor’ (they don’t have brushes on t/dryers by the way)

See below for a local engineer to sort it 😉

    John,

I would think that possibly GIAS (Hoover/Candy) do still have a copy of the User Booklet if you enquire direct to them?

    Re: Washing appliances in bathrooms

Spotted a classic example of ‘mad electrician’ yesterday who had installed an elderly Bosch (VT596) washer dryer in a small bathroom. He knocked a hole through to the bedroom wall to spur link in a one-gang socket behind the machine.

The machine was at the end of the bath and anyone wishing to take a bath could slip into the water AND use the washing machine as a headrest!

The seperate drain was linked to the bath outlet, so whenever the washing machine was in use the customer put the bath plug in to stop the bath filling up!

I advised the customer to contact the electrician in question, meanwhile as the Bosch machine was BER anyway I disconnected the 13amp spur in the bedroom…so my conscience is clear 🙂

It is NOT a police matter either, so they will not call on you over a ‘civil’ matter such as this. 😉

So now it seems your customer can be deemed guilty of ‘harrassment’ 💡
