That is incorrect. It’s purpose is to close the sump to prevent detergent getting flushed into the sump hose as the machine fills. Nothing whatsoever to do with drain hose backwash.

The sump ball valve is a very necessary device and I would not recommend its removal (other than to clean it and put back).

OK, next question, being as it appears you do indeed need a new thermostat you will need to provide the FULL model number and serial number for the correct replacement.

Try and avoid writing two separate threads on the same subject. What are the symptoms that make you think the thermostat is at fault?

Take out and clean thoroughly the condenser/air cooler unit and ensure the lint filter and ducting from it are clean.

Looking back at the ‘history’ of this machine and the determination you applied Tim please accept my respect for your determination toward keeping your machine alive. What is so interesting overall in all the ‘posts’ on the subject is the reference to the ISE10 and how that ‘history’ meanwhile has dealt with both aspects.

It represents a fault with the heater thermostat/thermistor (aka NTC).

You could buy 3 of those for the price of one Miele. There must be a reason for that…..hmm?

Not a “known fault” as such John other than I expect there’s water ingress in there affecting the heatpump most likely. OR that there’s an insulation fault somewhere along the line.

I bet odds/even that they don’t put salt in it and rely on the 3 in 1 tabs. 😉
