ParticipantRe: Code configuration AEG-Electrolux
The code should have been on a sticker on the old module? If you don’t have that, you need to read the code from the old module. As far as I know, you can’t get the code from the PNC number.

ParticipantRe: New Van Rack Layout Dilemma
Another vote for a picture of the back of your van if possible Martin! At the moment I have everything in tough, padded boxes stacked on shelves at the front of the van, which leaves space for four washing machines behind but makes everything very difficult to find. Also have the passenger seat/footwell full of drills, extension leads etc much to wife’s annoyance!
A quick question too – can you fit a new washing machine, with packaging, in the back of an Astra? I’d prefer an Astra van if possible but have stuck with a Combo because it fits four machines + sack trolley on top perfectly.

May be a long shot but have you checked live and neutral on mains supply aren’t reversed? Had one very similar to this, worked for a couple of days with faulty L/N but then PCB buggered. Got a sparky to fix the power, new PCB and away the machine went.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi Washer Dryer Causing Holes in Laundry
Assuming the bearings are okay it’s almost always caused by either overloading the machine, or washing on an inappropriate cycle/spin speed – e.g. delicates on a cotton wash.
The metal is just the dryer duct, totally normal – clothes would never get there.

Lots of people will tell you this is a “dying industry” etc. etc. but I only started recently, love the job – busy 14 hour days seven days a week with no advertising. If you do a good job at a fair price you’ll be run off your feet with recommendations. Good luck!

ParticipantRe: best landline provider
Hi Chris,
Best thing to do is buy a VOIP phone, and then sign up with a VOIP provider like VOIPcheap. It means you can have a normal phone on your desk which receives phone calls but when calling it’s sent via the internet – free to landlines and mobiles are about 8p a minute.
Means the total cost of calls to me is about £50 per quarter, plus BT line rental, but this also includes forwarding the calls to my mobile, which the VOIPphone does – as well calls to customers, suppliers etc.
The wife also uses it to call family overseas which is free too.
More details are here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones … lls#prices
Hope that helps!

ParticipantRe: Do tumble dryers use induction/brushless motors?
All tumble driers have induction motors because brushes on a motor spark against the armature. On a washing machine this is fine, but on a tumble dryer it would set fire to the lint that collects inside the machine casing, causing a fire.

Why not take the motor off and check brushes?

ParticipantRe: Washing machine durability
As Bazza says, these are built with Indesit electronics – some of the worst on the market. If a component fails, there’s a pretty good chance it’ll take the circuit board with it, due quite simply to shoddy engineering and cost cutting.
Probably the next thing to go will be the rubbish bearings, assuming the PCB lasts long enough to wear these out. At that stage, sealed tub (yet more crappy engineering) means you’re best writing it off and avoiding anything from the Indesit brand – that is, also Ariston and Creda too.

It’s obvious that, just from that given example, you’re seriously underselling your excellent services, for darn certain sure my friend. 🙁
Plus you have to remember you can never please all the people, all the time. I used to take it personally – because it’s my business I used to think they were saying I was ripping them off.Now I realise for every person who winces and moans about the price, there’s another customer who thinks you’re a bargain and tells all their friends about you. Some people seriously think that we can fund telephones, vans, tools, insurance, advertising and time all for £20 or whatever ridiculous price they had in mind.
I always figure if I lose that sort of person as a customer, it’s no big deal. They’re inevitably the type who cause problems after the repair anyway.
Although thanks to Martin’s tip about having a mobile card machine it’s much easier now – when they say “I’ve only got £x”, I just whip out the card machine – “No problem, I can charge your card directly instead” 😆
Back on topic, roads aren’t much fun around here as soon as you get out into the country – had a rather scary moment as van started to slide, the three Amicas in the back no doubt helping no end :). But all was okay in the end, quiet day anyway as no-one doing any washing here!

ParticipantRe: White Knight tumble dryer
Ah, okay, I thought you were having trouble finding the belt. Fitting is a lot easier than many tumble driers really as the base comes off allowing you better access to pull the belt over the pulley.
It will probably be a struggle if you’ve never put one on before as they’re a pain to get on – best to make yourself an improvised tool of some sort. Washing machine suspension springs work well with a plastic cap on to protect the belt from damage.

ParticipantRe: White Knight tumble dryer
Check the old belt first but this is normally 1547, not difficult to get hold of at all.

Thermostat on the van is buggered so had to drive around without heaters on today, was -4C when I started.
Bloody freezing! New thermostat tomorrow, sod losing a mornings work!

ParticipantRe: AEG ÖKO LAVAMAT 88739 UPDATE
To be honest you’re playing with fire switching PCBs around – if a component is shorting soon enough you’ll damage the “new” PCB – net result, two broken machines.
You need to check the old circuit board for damage – if these is any visible, trace the circuit back to the component that’s caused it. If you’re competent at soldering, you could try replacing the damaged component, but often there will also be non-visible damage. Testing for this is very difficult without proper equipment.
If there’s no visible damage, you’re better off getting an engineer to check the machine properly. Electrolux PCBs are very expensive and not the sort of thing you want to be blowing up frequently.

ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?
They come up quite often on eBay and the like – “Not draining, for spares/repair”. My best buy was £1.20 for a Siemens washer which had a pen lid stuck in the filter. One minute to repair and £158.80 profit on sale as a recon :).
