WITH POWER OFF remove & check brushes. Run your finger along the armature inside and turn the motor – if you feel any raised segments the armature is knackered.
Did you check the timer? Any blackened tracks near the connectors? If so trace the wires back to find the faulty component.

Does it stop full of water or not?

Could be one of a number of things. I’d check the door lock and motor first – if it’s the GEC motor these were notorious for blowing segments on the armature. Unlikely the timer would go for no reason, though, but do check it as both motor and or door lock are more than capable of taking the timer out.

ParticipantRe: Creda Energy Save series TD motor shaft worn smooth
Hi Jim,
Thanks for that – good to know what caused the shaft to wear smooth as I was a bit puzzled about that.
I think, visually, that the motor is Europart 42-CR-03, £44 ex VAT, going to have a word with the customer and if she wants to pay part cost + new belt will have a punt on it, worst thing comes to the worst I’ll have a motor in storage for a long time! Just a real shame having to replace a working motor for the sake of a dodgy shaft!

We really need more details as to what “early on” means. E.g. two minutes? Half an hour? Different time every time?
Have you tried doing cold wash to eliminate heater?
Do rinse and spin work okay?
Is it filling with a normal amount of water?odom
ParticipantRe: WHIRLPOOL 6TH SENSE AWM 8103/1 error
FH is water fill timing out. Check the pipes aren’t kinked and you have adequate water pressure. If this is okay, it’s likely the pressure switch is blocked, or that the drain hose is too low and water is siphoning out.

Reviews for Clive.
I know clearly a lot of people don’t read them, but to anyone typing “Washing machine repairs in Abingdon” into Google these show right at the top of the page.

We see plenty of Miele but tbh apart from the rip-off price of spares and the fact they’re so bloody heavy to move, it’s great for us – no-one else would spend £100+ on 15 year old machines. As for Clive – we have plenty of jobs where people call us after him. They’re a nightmare as like in the programme he just replaces random parts, so you have to fix the fault AND whatever he’s buggered up.
Anyway, been a really busy day for us :). Loads of customers have said “I called you because I saw Clive on Watchdog last night then read your reviews online”. Happy days, tbh – I’ve no problem people watching me work and always show them the damaged part I’ve removed.
I think people like Clive are going to be driven out of this industry now every man and his dog can write a review of us online, and it’s no bad thing – if Watchdog help this on it’s way all the better.

whirlpool wrote:hi i think i would buy a hotpoint aquaries comes with the same warrenty but its alot quietier
😆 Yep, great choice if you need a really heavy paperweight to use in a couple of years time when the module blows up or the drum weights disintegrate.
Out of the two you’ve given I’d go for the Siemens, because there simply aren’t enough Panny’s around for us to get a good idea on long-term reliability. BUT really I wouldn’t spend my money on the Siemens anyway. This is simply because as engineers we know that you can’t shove an 8kg drum onto domestic suspension with concrete counterweights and expect something that will last.
Really if I were you I’d either save myself some money and get a 6kg German Bosch that should last 8-9 years, or if you’re doing enough washing to make the 8kg drum worthwhile, splash out and invest in an ISE, which can do 8kg loads and will last you 20 years.

To be fair this is partly the fault of people selling spares implying that anyone and their dog can strip a machine down.
Went to one the other day – Hotpoint Aquarius. Customer said he’d told Comet he didn’t have any tools but asked if they were easy top fit. Comet person told him no problem, just pushes into place :rolls:.
To be fair, he’d managed to get the one on off with a table knife but when he proudly showed he “how far he’d got” putting the new one on..! He was a buit peeved when I took it all off again.

We’ve been going round installing quite a few of these at the moment: –

Customers seem to love the Varioperfect system, lets you choose if you want to optimise wash for speed, efficiency or a balance of the two with one button press. Seem very well built as well, these are German rather than Spanish Boschs.
Good price on that site but if you let us know where you live a local indie might be able to beat it for you, e.g. we are in Oxford and do it for £369 including delivery and install.

Thanks for your help. What would you recommend when buying a new one?
I’ve had about 4 in ten years!Your old one could be repaired with a reconditioned PCB, but as iadom says electronics and drums on these are rubbish anyway, more than likely something else will go within the year.
If you want a new machine, what we’d recommend really depends what your budget is. If you’re fed up of buying new washing machines and want something that will last, the ISE10 would be an excellent investment, you should get 20 years out of it: –

Otherwise a decent German Bosch/Siemens would be a good choice. Let us know how much you have to spend and we could recommend some.

ParticipantRe: Haier HNS1460TVEME washing machine leaking
There were a big problem with these seals – saw stacks and stacks of them that had been returned under warranty where the door seal was twisted around at the front.
If the old seal is okay you could try taking it off and putting it back on again to reseat it, has worked a couple of times for me. Otherwise new seal time or just tell them to get a new one, design fault so even if you tighten retainers as much as possible it will still keep happening 😕
