Re: Hotpoint WD440 dryer fan not switching on

Cheers, thanks Mike. They’re sending one out.

Has anyone else had a load of trouble with the Hotpoint Mk4 boards recently? Fitted five from EMW just this week – all the same problem, burning along the bottom of the board to the left of the heatsink (?). Not sure if it’s just coincidence or whether it’s to do with them starting up Didcot power station and spiking the voltages up…

Good machine but takes more than two hours to complete the cottons programme. Over the course of 10+years that’s going to add up 😕

Might be worth getting a second opinion from a local independent repairer as to whether you actually need a new PCB, interface AND door lock – the first two especially are expensive parts to buy on the recommendation of someone who’s not prepared to fit them.

Unfortunately this machine has a useless Electrolux board so the door lock taking out the board isn’t beyond the realms of possibility, but I’ve never known the interface board go too.

If those are all gone to be honest I’d call it a day and spend the money on a decent Bosch or ISE instead.

Re: Google – has your positioning changed?

They’ve been revising it a bit over the last month. The big change seems to be that they’re now ranking by reviews, so if you don’t have any reviews on Google, get a regular customer to write one.

E.g. searching for Washing machine repairs in Oxfordshire and we’re now top of the list, wheras before they were all arranged closest to the centre.

However, searching for a city itself now just brings up one, which is the nearest one 😕

Doubt it has anything to do with Yellow Pages, we only have a free ad with them.

Probably a bra wire or similar in the filter, you need to remove the sump hose from the filter housing and see if you can fish whatever is jamming it out. Whirlpool filters are pretty shoddy so not uncommon for this to happen.

Would certainly recommend JLA – excellent service. Have ordered a few for commercial sites, washers seem very well built.

Does anyone have a good form typed up to relinquish the right to cancel? I assume this would be okay to add onto the bottom of my job sheet to keep all the paperwork together?

The one on the Gloucester TS site seems geared up to allowing them to cancel.

Digitalface – the part quoted below is a capacitor for the motor. If the suppressor (cylinder that the mains power lead runs into) has gone, then you need a totally different part.

Email spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and they’ll get you the part. Do not order a capacitor from Maplin unless you want to save on fireworks for 5th November by blowing up your PCB!

    Re: HELP hotpoint wf541washing machine

First, obvious thing to check is that the plug is working. Plug a lamp or something in and make sure you have power there.

If that’s okay then primary suspects are either suppressor, main module or display module. Power off, lid and back off and check these, as well as the contiunuity of the wiring between then,.

Maybe a stupid question but have you checked that this is definitely sealed tub? As I recall this model is normal split tub design…

Re: ISE10 1607W or Mele 3204, Bosch or Zanussi

Ken, who specced the machine, will probably give you a better answer, but there’s two primary differences between an 8kg ISE10 and an 8kg domestic machine, e.g. Hotpoint or similar: –

    – With Hotpoints, if you buy an 8kg machine you simply buy a larger drum. All the components, e.g. suspension, bearings, remain exactly the same – basically, as cheaply engineered as possible whilst still doing the job. This means that they almost inevitably fail pretty quickly. The ISE10 is a “semi-commercial” machine, with engineering to match. This means the beefed up suspension and bearings are over-engineered to handle the extra capacity and higher spin speed.

    – Likewise, unlike some cheap domestic 8kg machine, where the drum is just a “stretched” 6kg design, the ISE10 has a specially designed drum which gently pushes the washing into the centre of the drum whilst agitating it, making for a better wash. The new ISE10 is meant to be even better than Miele’s “Honeycomb” drum because it has special traps allowing grit & grass to escape, which is the common complaint about Miele’s drums. Quite simply – a lot of thought has gone into the design because in the end you’ll be using this for 20+ years so it’s important that it washes properly.

Having said all that, a 8kg drum only makes sense if you are going to use the extra capacity. If you find your current machine more than ample capacity wise, then stick with that.

Re: Hotpoint WM63 – Lack of Spin

Are the brushes moving freely within their holders? For the sake of a couple of quid I’d replace these in case you have a dodgy connection or they’re sticking in the holders.

TBH problem was probably brushes all along, WMs will still spin even with water in the drum. Moving the machine around probably moved the old brushes a bit and got it working for you.

The stop light always lights with these before you tell it to start the programme. If the machine is working correctly I can’t really see where the problem is?

Have you checked the counterweights are attached securely?
