    Re: Closing Down forever

    Hi mate,

Sorry to hear that, really bad news :(. Good luck getting everything sorted with the bloody pension credits!

Are you selling the tail lift and van together or separately? Did you have a price in mind?

    Thanks.

Or possibly the fact that Miele have a tiny market share compared cheaper brands?

In my opinion Miele make good machines and if you look after them (which the OP clearly has with their AEG) by doing maintenance washes, not ignoring funny noises, etc. then they are definitely a good investment. However, they can and still do go wrong. When they do it will cost an arm and a leg more than fixing a Bosch or ISE, and this is almost entirely down to the way Miele restricts info and spares to the indies.

Check the filter, drain hose, connection to sink and sump hose for any blockages, in that order.

Without the model number it’s impossible to say where the filter could be.

    Re: Waste Carriers Licence

More confusion! I was on the phone to one of the EA’s senior environment advisers today. He clearly found the situation confusing too, frequently telling me something then checking the legislation and correcting himself. As I told him, if he, who had been doing the job full time for 23 years, had difficulty getting his head around it, what chance do we have.

He did, however, send me a very interesting briefing which contains this: –

Scenario 3: A householder has an item of used EEE that does not work but is not obviously beyond repair. They decide to donate it to a charity or community sector re-use / refurbishment workshop. The equipment is not considered waste; there is a clear intention that the item be repaired and made available for its original intended use.
Householders should act sensibly and not donate items that are clearly beyond economic repair (such as monitors with cracked screens). Similarly, we expect charities, the community sector and other refurbishers to take steps to ensure they do not accept waste unless they are willing and appropriately authorised to do so.
If the recipient of properly donated equipment (i.e. equipment that appears to any reasonable person to be capable of repair) subsequently decides that the item cannot be refurbished but has to be disposed of or dismantled for parts, it will be regarded as waste from the point at which that decision is made. The original recipient of the donated equipment will be considered to be the waste producer.

Now, it seems to me that, as we can never be sure whether an item is repairable or not without inspection, that it wouldn’t be considered waste until you’ve checked it. You could then apply for an S2 exemption for storage of WEEE, which is free. It would only be if you wanted to dismantle the machine for parts you’d need T11, which is a blow, but not half as bad as it could have been!

    Full briefing is here: –

Fault code was definitely F20, without a doubt. Code hasn’t reappeared since filter emptied so I’d assume it was indicating failure to drain.

Haha, too true – as I’ve had to explain to many a customer as I’ve BERred their 14 month old sealed drum 🙁

I’ll try and take pictures next time, would have done it this time only already felt stupid enough not being able to tell them what the fault was.

maltheviking wrote:If I was you I would be looking for a “chafed” wire

Thanks. Checked all the wiring for anything obvious, it’s all cable tied very tightly but otherwise seems okay. The fact the “explosions” appear in different places, seemingly actually at components, make me think something else must be up.

iadom wrote:WD640 is a bog standard, free standing machine. 😕

    Worth checking mains filter.
I know :?. As I said, never seen a machine like it, it looks very much like a WMA drum, but with large square module mounted front right, very simple controls (just 4 buttons + programme dial), plus LCD display. No branding whatsoever on anything, inside or out. Means getting parts for it is very difficult.

Thanks for the tip about the suppressor. Will try and see if I can one, although it’s a bit funny too – not standard, plastic push fit plug at the front, with spade connections to machine behind it. It’s mounted sideways.

Thanks for all your help – as I said, it’s certainly an unusual one for me… especially for the fault to occur after cleaning the filter. I’d hate to BER it as I suspect customer blames me somewhat – not that I blame them as I can’t tell them WHY their machine has started exploding all of a sudden!

    Re: WMA46 Hotpoint Drain pump

1/4″ isn’t very much to be left on the brushes, and they can wear unevenly so the other side may be worse. Take the motor off and check both brushes, you will probably find at least one is dull on the end due to the poor contact.

Replace but make sure they are bedded in with a comm stick as well. Part will probably either be this or this depending if you have the FHP or Bosch motor fitted.

It’s normal for the drain pump to continue running as this runs throughout the spin cycle.

Re: A Series Of Articles From The WTA

Great articles, especially the one about warranties as this is, IMO, also very relevant to reconditioned machines. This is still the biggest headache for me despite clearly detailing on every receipt what the guarantee does and doesn’t include 😕 (had an bit of an argument with a customer who wanted her machine MOVED under guarantee as she was having a dishwasher installed! “But you said the price included installation!”)

    Thanks, fantastic work as always!

Re: How should i deal with this?

Have you tried calling Beko yourself and laying on the “currently recommend you, but my confidence is being tested” etc. etc? I don’t supply Bekos but did it once with a BSH washer dryer that was playing up and BSH arranged it to be swapped with a new one. This will probably get you more brownie points with the agent than a recon too.

    Bekos number is 01923 818121.

Otherwise it really depends on the customer. Personally, like you, I’d stump up the cost of a new machine if it was that or lose the customer, because LA jobs are normally very easy, as tenants never try and fix anything themselves. But only you can make the call really :).

Were the old brushes worn or not? Did you use a comm stick to bed in the new brushes and clean the commutator?

    Re: ZANUSSI FJS1397W – WASHING MACHINE – 1250 SPIN – 5KG

    Hi,

It will work fine but you will need a Y-piece which allows you to connect two hoses to one supply. Most eBay ones are flimsy and leak after a while but Bosch make a good one, part number 050871. Email spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk if you want to order one.

Without a Y-piece machine will probably not do 60C+ cycles, and may leak out the unconnected hot valve.

Re: SMEG WMI16AAA – Very noisy on spin

That’s only half of what you may need I’m afraid. The first part is the actual bearings themselves. They’re the same bearings as in a Hotpoint BWM20 if you want a cheaper alternative, though obviously if they’d be the same quality is questionable.

When you have the crosspiece out you need to inspect the shaft. If there’s any scoring or pitting to the shaft, it’s best to replace it too as it will affect the quality of the seal and cause premature failure of the new bearings.

Buying from this site will probably be a bit cheaper than buying from Smeg direct, email them for a quote: –

Not a cheap job as you say, I’m afraid.
