Will probably need new bearings. Try moving the inner drum and see if there is any “play”, e.g. it moves up/down or left/right.

Bearings are relatively cheap but fitting them is a big job, and will require removing and splitting the drum, as well as a heavy hammer and drift to remove the old bearings. Will probably cost around the £100 mark to get an engineer to do it for you, because of the amount of work involved. Definitely don’t use the machine any more until bearings are replaced to prevent further damage.

    Re: Call Forwarding

I’m not sure if it helps anyone, two things that really drove a load of business for me, and saved me a fortune on *21* costs, were adding callback and online booking to my website.

It works really well for me because about 2/3 of my customers are returns/recommends, who call me direct on my mobile anyway, but all the rest are through the website having searched on Google, as I don’t advertise or pay YP at all.

Basically, if they ask for a callback it’s set up to text me – costs less than 5p a text (cheaper than just the BT connection fee) and sends a SMS to my mobile with the number – I just click the number and press call – customer is delighted cause they get a ring within 30 secs of entering their number as long as I’m not busy, plus costs me nothing to call them using my mobile contract minutes. Took an hour or so to sort out how to do the script, anyone who wants a copy please let me know.

Online booking I paid for the script, cost me £40 but well worth it as letting agents LOVE it as no more messing around between me, them and the tenant – they call tenant and book a time straight away, nothing for me to do, I just get a text with name/address/phone number, costs me 5p, straight into the TomTom and away. Tenant jobs are dead easy so couldn’t be simpler.

Obviously there are some provisos – online booking only works well for me because almost all my calls are within 5 miles of each other, would be costing a fortune in petrol otherwise. Also need to pay attention, if it’s something complicated like bearings I book the next appointment off as well, or take the machine back to my workshop if no space. Finally, I suspect it only works well where most of your new leads come from online – got a mate in Portsmouth who found he was getting nothing from it because most of his customers don’t have computers.

Both are on the right hand side of my website – http://www.oxforddomestic.com Hope it helps someone.

Ikea stuff is all rebadged Whirlpool. With the price of WP spares, it’s the kind of work I can afford to miss out on, tbh.

Almost definitely a board fault. Check the board for burnt tracks. If they are burnt, you will need to get an engineer to sent it away for repair.

Unfortunately this is very common on Indesits as the electronics are rubbish, 50/50 whether it’s actually worth repairing.

    Re: EMW issues

If you ask they will post you an A5 manual, I keep mine with the UKWG fault book, means you can tell while at a job if EMW can recon it or not so give the customer a price. Certainly annoying when they can’t repair it but I’d guess this is due to limitations on the number of test rigs they have?

Have to say their expertise really is great though, can’t fault any of the work they’ve done for me.

Re: april fools day…..ive a washer in my shower room ..!!!

Had fun and games with another landlord with this today – used and abused Hotpoint literally inches from a shower cubicle, plugged in behind right next to mains water and waste.

Got an earful from the landlord about how he wasn’t paying me to “judge the plumbing in his house”. Told him in no uncertain terms he wouldn’t be paying me at all as there was no way I’d be doing any work for him 👿

My guess would be that if there’s stuff in the drum there’s probably more in the filter which would keep the drum from spinning up, unlikely to get a clanking noise from the motor. Have you checked the drain speed of the machine? Otherwise standard motor checks – brushes first with power off.

Other possibility is that a counterweight has come loose or suspension broken/knackered and that the drum is being thrown around against the cabinet and the out of balance is kicking in to stop the drum spinning up; or the spider is broken, but I’d have thought you’d have mentioned if the drum was being thrown around. You can check the spider by checking for play in the drum and rotating it by hand and listening for where the noise is coming from, but tbh you’d be unlucky if these had gone in a Bosch the age of your machine.

Probably coins or something stuck in the drum, not sensor at these are well out the way of the inner drum!. Have a check with a torch and see if you want see them through the holes. If so, try getting sump hose and, if required, heater out and remove debris. I find it helps to use put a bright light/torch in the drum itself to give some light to work by, and so you can see the shadows of the coins through the drum to get you started. Check sump hose and filter are clear as well.

Do not use machine until you’re sure everything is removed or else the coins will punch through the outer drum and you’ll be spending big money to replace it.

If you can’t get it out through these you will need to remove and split drum but should be possible to do without, depending on how much of a pig they are to get to.

    Re: LG DIRECT DRIVE MOTOR

Already paid £70-odd+VAT for it from Europarts. Cheaper than CDSL, but really annoying when retail is less than trade 😡

Will report back how it goes. Bit sceptical because I haven’t seen many of these LG DD jobs. Machine was showing DE (!) but to be honest it was a mess anyway, waste pipe connected to usual crappy sink spigot along with dishwasher, so was barely draining.

Have you tried running an empty cycle through without detergent and seen if it does the same thing? I’ve had a couple where excessive detergent use has caused suds lock in pressure chamber, which is “cured” for the next wash cycle, although admittedly normally normally the other way round (pressure switch stuck on).

    Hi,

Sorry to drag this up but got a the same fault. Is there any point trying to replace just the hall sensor first, or is it best to go for the stator?

Might be repairable – in the trade we use a company called EMW – emwelec.co.uk – not sure if they sell to the public as well. They don’t do all Zanussi boards but from memory they do yours – you can give them a call and check.

Whether it’s worth repairing really depends on what component has blown the board – something cheap like a door lock would make it worthwhile, whilst if it’s the motor perhaps not. Can’t post wiring diagrams here but you can always trace the wires from the blown tracks, or EMW will tell you if you’re getting it repaired. Not a cheap repair job, though, I’m afraid.

Did you check the boards for damage, e.g. blown tracks?
