Paul,
OP already said engineer didn’t check machine at all – hence asking him to check element 8)

Okay. If you trace the wiring back from the burnt circuit to the connected component that will give you a good clue as well. Of course, by fitting a new board before checking this there’s a possibility that the new board will now be damaged as well, but at least with Bosch electronics you have a chance of salvaging it :).
Do you mind if I ask what engineer you used, e.g. was it Serviceforce/Repaircare/Premier Electrics or an independent? Always worth knowing where these engineers that can diagnose a fault without actually checking the machine work at 😉

ParticipantRe: Bosch WVT 1260 GB extended wash period
Without being cynical, some engineers use the “control board” as a sort of fallback item to blame. What else did they test before they diagnosed the board? Was there any visible damage to the old PCB?
It appears either he wasn’t confident enough to put his own money behind his diagnosis, or you decided to take the chance on relying on someone else’s diagnosis yourself.
Either way, it’s best to start at the beginning. First point of call, with power off, is to check the heater with a megger (or multimeter to start if you don’t have a megger), check the thermostat with a multimeter, and check the continuity of wiring from the heater and the thermostat to the PCB. Let us know how you get on and we can advise from there.

They’re the same as the Matsui M1000W09 – which were £150 retail 😕
Went out to one the other day, pulley totally disintegrated. Incredibly poorly manufacturered. Stopped ordering the AWP512, cheap for a two year warranty but can see they’re going to be a real headache.

ParticipantRe: You want to charge me HOW MUCH!
Reminds me of fun and games I had with some posh bloke. Had already had an argument with him at the door when he told me couldn’t wear shoes, even with plastic overshoes, in case it marked the carpet. Told him no shoes = no repair because if I drop a machine and break my toes then I’m stuffed.
He’d tried to fit a new seal but only attached it to the outer casing. Certainly wouldn’t admit it and was insistent it was the “machines” fault.
Fifteen minutes later, seal fitted correctly. He still wouldn’t admit it was “his” seal that was at fault and was insistent I’d changed something else. He then said, “Well, I know you haven’t really repaired anything, as we supplied the part, but obviously we’d still like to give you something for your time”. :rolls:

ParticipantRe: Indesit WIDXL126 Fill Levels
Have you tried running it without clothes in so you can see how much water is being used? You should have about 2 inches in the bottom of the drum, you can’t see this with clothes in but should be enough to rinse, to an extent.
Once the machine has filled set it to spin and watch the drain speed – if the machine should empty in about 20-30secs. If it’s draining slowly, then it could be leaving dirty wash water in throughout the wash, which would explain the poor rinse. If it is draining slowly check filter/sink spigot (if not standpipe/drain hose/sump hose for blockages, in that order.

ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?
Bit of a change today – called out to for 4 year old Indesit not filling. Valve had gone o/c, amazingly hadn’t taken the board with it. Replaced the valve, machine tested and working, happy days.
Noticed a Miele W310 looking rather unloved in the corner of the garage and asked what was wrong with it. “Oh, that works fine, it’s just the wife thinks it’s too old. I’ve actually been meaning to take it to the dump but it’s just too old and heavy – not like my Indesit! Why, is it any good for you for parts?”
Ummmmmm…. YES BLOODY PLEASE! :rolls: After checking that he was absolutely sure he wanted to give me a Miele I fetched the sack truck! Well, I wouldn’t want my customers to have a reliable machine :D.
Happily purring away doing a maintenance wash at the moment!

ParticipantRe: Zanussi changing the drain hose
Easiest way to access is through the back. Unplug first. It helps if you tip the machine slightly, so that you have some light and a better angle to work at.
It’s possible to remove the front but it’s a pain to do, much better to persevere. If you don’t have proper corbin pliers to remove the clip, some bent-nosed pliers or failing that mole grips will be invaluable.

ParticipantRe: Siemens WXLM148A noise when drum rotates
No problem at all. Certainly not the most elegant position but it does get the job done!
You can prevent this happening in future by washing underwire bras in a old pillowcase, so if the wire escapes it doesn’t get into the washing machine – I say that as my last job today was a 20 month old Beko where the bra wire had pierced right through the bottom of the drum!

Probably a coin. The best thing to do is unplug the machine then, using a bright torch, look through the holes in the drum and see if you can see it. Putting your head in the drum will help and you can listen and locate the object.
Once you know where it is, remove the heater or sump hose, as applicable, and remove it. Requires a bit of patience but a lot easier than splitting the drum.
Sometimes you can’t reach it, in this case drum will need to be removed and split to retrieve object.
Whatever you do DON’T use the machine in the meantime – a coin can and will very easily punch a hole through the outer drum, effectively writing off your machine.

ParticipantRe: Best cheap brand to sell?
Hi,
Thanks for all your feedback. Am I right in saying all their machines are split tubs?
Still deciding whether to go for the £150 5.2kg one with 1000rpm spin, or the £200 6kg 1400 rpm one, which has an LCD display which customers seem keen on nowadays – in spite me telling them simple is better with washing machines 😕

All you need to change is the board and they wouldn’t be so bad!
Mike.
Only because the electrics are so crap they fail before anything else has a chance to :).Does anyone know the story behind this? Merloni shipping off production to Italy?

Try cleaning the pressure chamber and checking pressure switch.
