    Hi Barrie,

PMed you but not sure if you got it? If you could send one over that would be great, thank you.

Definitely suspicious… it’s a very blurry picture but the “flat” bottom of the flames would definitely make me think it’s been through Photoshop; especially as the newspaper clearly couldn’t find any of this damaged carpet or ceiling to photograph.

    Re: What do you carry?

I probably carry far too much in the toolbox but in Oxford it can be a good few minutes walk from the van to the machine, and so I always try and carry any tool I might need + the part(s) I might need to use.

    My toolkit has: –

Megger, multimeter and earth loop tester
Powered screwdriver + selection of bits
Flat, philips, torx, socket, insulated electrical & neon screwdrivers.
Hammer, club hammer & drift for bearings.
Bent nosed pliers, combination pliers, fine nosed pliers, crimping pliers and cutting pliers.
Full set of metric & some imperial sockets plus three sizes of rachets, as well as T50 & hex socket for Zanussi bolts.
Spare suspension spring for removing suspension springs.
    Set of spanners.
UKWG fault code guide, receipt book, machine stickers with our phone number on, PAT test stickers & GPRS credit card machine.
    Electrical tape and comm stick.
Selection of spade connections, wire connectors, screws, bolts etc.

…and probably a load of other stuff. What can I say… it saves a gym membership :).

    Re: AWCT12L orange fault code??

Full wiring diagrams are on the service website but these PCBs to seem to fail without any visual problems so even though the PCBs are relatively simple it can be difficult to pin down the faulty component.

TBH for the cost of the PCBs (£30-ish new, presumably costing Amica even less for service work) I’d replace every time, as cheaper to replace than the time spent on repairs & possible recalls.

    Hi Nige,

Yep, new motor and problem solved. Still no idea what the cause was as machine had very little use, brushes like new and no insulation fault.

Motor sent was a different type though – similar to the old Servis ones. No idea if it’s just a change of suppliers or a known issue with Amica.

When does it leak, e.g. during fill, during wash, during spin?

There are two parts for this but you can still buy the old one from Qualtex using Martin’s p/n C00273150

New p/n is C00112191. Not had to fit any of the new ones yet so not sure what the difference is but I’d just order the old door trim to make it easy :).

If you really want to check – bearing in mind these machines have a sticker over the back cover that breaks once opened, so JL are going to be able to tell you have messed around with it and give your inlaws a hard time: –

    Unplug machine.
    Take belt off.
Spin drum & motor by hand.

If the drum makes the noise, it’s probably something stuck in the drum.
If the motor makes the noise, it’s probably motor bearings.
If both are silent, it’s probably the belt.

    Re: Talktalk what a joke!

It is scary how much we all rely on phone numbers I suppose… thousands of machines out there with my number on the front, but no guarantee BT won’t turn around tomorrow and change it all.

I suppose really the way to go is 0845 numbers, as these “belong” to you, but customers don’t like them and in many ways a local number is an asset anyway, setting you aside from the Repaircare/Premier “local” firms.

    Re: Van Stock

Spoken to Anne about this already, she said “Let me know what you need and I’ll arrange it for you”. Problem is only been out to a handful of Amica repairs so a bit difficult to know what’s needed – anyone from UKW know what the most ordered spares are?

I’d say AWP door seal and AWCT board & motor are definites.

Will it be possible to sign up to the WTA at the meeting in Coventry, if we bring proof of PLA? I’ve sent off the forms twice now but no reply either time… much prefer to sort things face to face if possible :).

ozz wrote:Change the heating element for around £20. I would imagine this will solve your problem, plus its cheaper than getting someone out with a megger to most prob tell you its the element or the motor. Hope this helps.

A quick search for “parts bingo” on here will show what stupid and potentially expensive advice this is. Test parts before replacing them, or else you are simply throwing money at the machine in the hope it might work.

But hey, if you imagine it may work, why not give it a try…
