ParticipantRe: Beko WMD 66165 stops after few minutes
If it’s brand new call out Beko, that’s what your guarantee is for. Make sure you’ve removed the transit bolts first though – if your machine is moving on spin it sounds like you’ve left them in.

ParticipantRe: Are washer-dryers any good these days?
If you do a lot of drying you will be much better off with separates, as well as saving lots of energy. See http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/buying-ad … dryer.html
Also, having a washer dryer in the bathroom is definitely a bad idea. Apart from the risk of electrical shock, condensation will do no favours to the already unreliable Indesit electronics you’re considering purchasing.

Check brushes, they’ll need replacing.

ParticipantRe: Electrolux toploader doorseal changing?
They’re very simple. Use a screwdriver or fine nosed pliers to push the two parts apart to release. To reapply, use bent fine nosed pliers to push the two parts together, using the indentations at either side for the plier ends.

The back of the seal rubs against the inner drum as it turns.

Hotpoint WF530T, they expect you to buy a tank rear half.I am well aware you did not buy a rear half, I was just correcting this bit of misinformation. 😉
When I spoke to Hotpoint they said the only way to do it “properly” is to replace the rear tub half. They didn’t like my response, needless to say it wasn’t polite. Doubt my skills will they.
It’s not a case of doubting your skills – most HP engineers will replace rear of tub because for the few quid it costs HP to make a tub, it’s worth saving the bother of knocking out the rear bearings – with all the risk assessments and H&S rubbish it brings.Indies replace bearings because the cost to us of new tubs is too high, plus the pain of storing them vs. storing a couple of bearings!

ParticipantRe: Impatient customer
I always ignore the phone before 8am as I want a bit of peace and quiet with a cup of tea – but this morning I had TWELVE missed calls from four different people!

Hi Lawrence,
I will be there but not booking a room as only coming from Oxford. Really enjoyed the last one and would encourage anyone who’s unsure to take the plunge. They’re really useful and a good chance to catch up with what’s new in the trade.

Always worth checking them before fitting too – I’ve been caught out twice fitting genuine Miele valves which have failed within a few days of fitting. You’d think for £50 they’d be decent, but judging by the boxes they’d been sitting on shelves for a while, presumably with Miele engineers getting any new ones.

ParticipantRe: Ariston A1636 – unresponsive – flashing lights
With a few exceptions (Amica being one), something cheaper than an Ariston would be doing well if it lasted you three years!

Sounds like you put the plug on the interlock the wrong way round, shorting live and neutral. Very worrying since you’re apparently repairing washing machines for money… hope you have good public liability insurance!

You know what they say – “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” ;). I know you shouldn’t need to but your repairer will be dealing with scores of parts every week, a quick call to put you back on his radar is always useful.

Have you used a multimeter to check the element and wiring to the element?

ParticipantRe: Impatient customer
I had a call at 10pm this Sunday night – Amica I sold with guarantee fault.
“Sorry, you need to call Amica.”
“But they’re closed and I’d like it fixed this evening, I have washing I need done for tomorrow morning.”Ironically the customer’s name was Ms. Payne… and she was a pain ;).

Hi,
If anyone comes across the same problem got the customer to run the machine before I got their and the motor was boiling hot after 40 mins use. Going to put in a new motor and fingers crossed it sorts it.
