    Re: Expensive Mistake.

I recently put in a question in the Trade Spares page about a Miele ceramic hob. I eventually just passed the query over to the local Miele specialist, who quoted something like £500 for a new hob glass 😯 It seems the customer for this item was not the house owner but a workman who had been in the house doing a job and inadvertently stood on the hob 😈

    Re: General Observations

I can’t see a problem with suppliers reading comments made about them on here, be they critical or complimentary. For example, there has been quite a bit of negative talk about Washvac of late but if members of their management read this they will perhaps address the problems, before their sales plummet.

I also had a 1974 MGBGT and that would have to count as giving the greatest fun factor. It was what I used in 1998 when I first started doing appliance repairs. If I needed to move appliances I used a big trailer, which I was never very good at reversing. Once I had to reverse the trailer about a mile down a single track road, when I met a tractor with a huge trailer coming the other way. Happy days…. 😉

    Re: worst thing

Not quite sure what you mean but I used to regularly have to repair various machines at a place where there were toadstools growing on the wall behind the machine. They used to buy machines on their last legs and I would try and keep them going until the next heap of junk was acquired!

Just as well I didn’t wait for the Bosch switch. The one I ordered, part No. 417915 arrived today and it’s not even the right switch, it’s the rocker switch for the main On/Off control 😕

I’m called fido on there but I’m getting a bit fed up with the over-zealous moderators, who shout at you if you mention things like money. 😈

I sometimes answer appliance questions at the DIYnot.com forum. There is an ex Hotpoint guy on there who tries to help people but he’s out of his depth on anything other than a 15 year old Hotpoint.

Lofthouse, the machine in question is a Legend 2. Perhaps you could add this to the list of models this fan will fit.

    Re: Zanussi carbons

Sorry Lofthouse, you are right, it was only 25 sets but I still paid more than the Seme price. I had been buying these carbons from Homespares for some time and this was the first lot with the spade adapter. I’ve never come across Ceset motors with anything other than 4.8mm spades but such an adapter would be useful for the Zem / Sole carbons.

    Re: Hotpoint Aquarius WMA32

The machine I am using at the moment is a WMA32 that I was given for spares. When I got it the lifters were held on with cable ties but I would not recommend this idea as the ends of the ties might pull threads out of garments.

    Re: Is WashVac’s site down?

When you register it asks you which prices you want, net, retail or trade. Perhaps you didn’t set it to trade. Not that I can get into the site anyway 😥

5 washes a week? I did a second bearing change on a 4 year old Zanussi Unicycle today. The customer says she does about 6 loads a day!

Re: life span of Siemens appliances

Sounds a bit steep to me. I would try offering her £400. They are one of the better quality makes but nobody designs domestic appliances to last 20 years these days.

Hi Bill, do you find the Servis work pays enough as I gather they struggle to get free-lance repairers?

    Re: Kirby Spares

Thanks Dave. I didn’t find anything on Connect and unfortunately I had already phoned a place that does Kirby spares before I read your reply. I will have paid over the odds but such is life 🙂
