    Re: Hotpoint brushes removal tool

I do use the Hotpoint tool for the one side but it is a very cheap & nasty thing with no serrations to grip the brush holder.

You could try changing the triac as it’s probably gone short circuit.

Re: Condensation in back of van

I have a dehumidifier I bought to keep my classic motorcycles dry in the garage but it’s hopeless in cold weather as it needs an ambient temperature of at least 10 degrees. My van is the same with condensation. I had frost on the dashboard one morning.

Would they be the ones listed as “MIKALOR Clips”?

Possibly a crack in one of the arms of the drum support spider. The only sure way to check this is by removing the inner drum.

    Re: skinny jubilee clips

Are there any new developments on the narrow hose clip front? I’m trying to put right a cockup made by our local British gas engineer on a Bauknecht dishwasher. Amongst other things, he used cable ties instead of proper clips on the sump hose. The hose fell off when I was doing a resistance check on the drain pump, machine was full of water at the time! I see the genuine Whirlpool hose clips are nearly £10 each trade.

I think that’s the same old lady who keeps ringing me. I never have managed to make her hear anything I say. 😆

    Rule of thumb is:
Alloy drum pulley = 35mm bearing kit 1604473
Plastic drum pulley = 30mm bearing kit 1604600

Re: How would you design a washing machine?

I would go for a toploader but it would be an integrated type, hinged like the hidden kitchen bins that open as you open the cupboard door. This way you achieve the worktop maximisation of a front loader with the engineering advantages of a toploader. Top of the range models would have a memory card socket and come with PC software for customised wash programmes. The bottom of the range one would be as simple as possible to operate with the bare minimum of buttons.

Re: AEG 33600 dryer belt – how easy is it to replace?

Not the easiest dryer to work on. You take off the lid and left hand cabinet side then you need to remove the fans from both ends of the motor shaft, remove the motor, and refit it with the new belt in place. Good luck, you may need it!

Yes, it sounds like a switch problem. I’m not familiar with that model but I would be taking a look at the switch that sets it to fan oven, conventional etc. Often the contacts are visible so you can look for any that are burnt or welded together. Power off before any dismantling.

    Re: Just lost the job

Before the internet it took a lot longer to identify and order spares so you had less time for actual repair work. Orders were also less accurately picked in those days. When I first started I used to place orders by phone to Crum & Sons, agents for Qualtex. They rarely got an order completely right as they were very slapdash at taking down the part numbers.
