Re: Yet another gripe at connect.

I was responding to the post from Stratford girl that her firm fit only genuine parts.

I would hope my customers would trust my judgement on whether to use pattern or genuine parts, based on years of experience. If you go down the route of only using the exact part specified by manufacturer X for model Y you would end up with a van loaded down with duplicated spares such as a dozen Askoll pumps, one in Distripart packaging, one in Merloni packaging, GIAS, Whirlpool etc etc. I tend to give pattern parts the benefit of the doubt until they prove unsatisfactory, like many of the non genuine carbons for the Hotpoint GEC motor. I fit pattern brushes for Zanussi, Indesit, Bosch etc with no problems. In some cases the price differences are so great that the only way to avoid an appliance being BER is to do the repair using pattern parts.

Well, CY05103 was not the right kit but I do have the correct bearings in stock. They are 6205 & 6204 and the seal is the same O/D and I/D as a Zanussi 1000 spin seal but 1.5mm thicker. Going by the witness marks on the spider bush there will be adequate penetration of the thinner seal 😀

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

The most common annoyance I get is customers who insist on swabbing down the lid of the washing machine with their dirty washing up water just as I’m unscrewing it. In a few more seconds they could take away the thing and do what they like to it but instead I get treated to a faceful as they splash it everywhere 😡

If you take the back off you will find the heater terminals toward the bottom at the back of the outer drum. The resistance can be checked as described by Penguin earlier in this thread. If you get an infinity reading you know that the heater has blown.

Yes, I normally bring the machine to the workshop to do bearings. It means I can do a leak test without any risk of damaging customers floor coverings etc.

Yes, it is a pain. I often need the torch just to see my tool bag. I use an LED headlight but it gets very grubby from doing carbon brushes and leaves black marks on my forehead. Perhaps I should go on Dragons Den with one where you could remove the outer shell + straps and wash them in the washing machine 💡

Presumably, anyone who re-orders that seal to replenish van stock without checking the alternatives. It does not seem that long since Hotpoint door seals were about £2.95.

For a single oven you can manage with 2.5mm cable. Do you know the make of the hood? Sometimes you can cut up universal felt filter material and refill the odour filters with loose charcoal. You may find there is a flap or lever you can move inside the appliance to switch from recirculated to vented.

    Re: bearing tool

The tool kit for removing bearings is 5600130 with an additional kit, 5600172 for doing the WMA machines. Not sure if it also fits the new bearings but you should be able to do the job with suitable old bearings for drifts. You could even get some large diameter threaded bar, nuts and washers to use in conjunction with the old bearings to press the new ones in. I use just an outer bearing race to knock in the seal as you can’t start hammering the edge of the flange. The ring drops into the groove in the steel seal pressing, I place a piece of thick bar across that and hammer the bar.

Why do you want to change the seal? Is it leaking? I ask because this is not a job for the feint hearted so should not be tackled unless you really have to. If you do have a go, please let us know how you get on.

I would talk to my rep about these things, if I’d ever seen one or even knew who it was. The only contact I seem to have with Connect is when they want paying.

There’s more annoyances, some of them very minor but they seem not to be interested in talking to customers from my perspective as, in three or four years, I’ve not spoken to anyone there outside the accounts department.

    K.

I generally spend less than £2000 a year with them but I would have thought I was worth the odd visit now and again. I have met the rep once or twice but only because I happened to be in one of the shops he visits. He has never been to my place.
To be fair though, I do get phone calls from the sales/customer service staff in Birmingham, asking if there are any problems etc.

I will order Masterpart kit CY05103 and hope for the best. The bearings from GIAS are so expensive I could not do the repair any cheaper than GIAS would charge for a call-out.

Re: Hoover 6 leaking after storage.

There are no special tricks to tracing leaks. You just remove the lid and the back, start the machine on a rinse programme and inspect to see where the water comes from. You may need to lean the machine over to look underneath but make sure it’s switched off when doing that. Perhaps mice have chewed a hose inside the machine.
