I reckon it will be a nylon ( or other manmade fibre) sock at the back of the drum. They melt during spin then solidify at the end of the cycle to weld everything together.

Probably a hole in the heating element. A common problem for the last few years on these machines is drum spider failure. The alloy casting that supports the drum cracks, allowing the drum to rub on the heater element, cutting a hole.

By definition, AC does not have polarity, live does not mean the same as positive.

The back half of the cabinet can be removed using an 8mm 1/4″ drive socket. It is held on with 4 screws at the top edges under the lid, 2 or 3 screws along the bottom rear edge and 2 hidden ones along the bottom side edges. You need to prise off the plastic plugs to get at the latter ones. You also have to unclip the inlet valve bracket from the cabinet.

Re: Whirlpool AA 1000 drum barings

I didn’t describe how to do the job as it is a bit beyond the scope of the average DIY repairer. You need to remove the outer drum from the cabinet, dismantle it, remove the drum pulley, drift out the drum spindle from the old bearings, drift out the bearings and press in new bearings. The sort of tools I use include assorted drifts, a specially ground cold chisel shaped similar to a lathe tool, a length of threaded bar with nuts and very big washers, a selection of old bearings, some ground down slightly on the outside diameter, and a good old lump hammer. A vernier caliper can also come in handy for measuring the drum shaft if you suspect the old bearing has been turning on the shaft. 😉

I perhaps didn’t explain too well when I referred to leaving it to the experts. I meant you would probably be best leaving it to the experts if it turned out to be the type of motor that has to be dismantled to change the brushes. The other type of motor has loose carbons on springs that can be removed after disconnecting the brush wires.

Halogen may look impressive when it instantly lights up but I did experiments with my old Tricity Princess that showed the halogen ring was hardly any faster to boil a given volume of cold water than the large ceramic one. I have ended up back with the good old spiral rings but you don’t get much choice of cookers with those these days and I don’t suppose you can buy a spiral ring hob.

Re: Hotpoint WMA40P wil not run up

Have a look at the back end of the motor. There is a magnet on the end of the spindle and a coil surrounding it, mounted on the motor casing. This is called a tacho sensor. If the magnet has come loose or the coil windings have broken the electronics will get no motor speed measurements and will shut the motor down.

Re: Whirlpool AA 1000 drum barings

The machine can be repaired but it is likely to be expensive. I suggest you phone a couple of local repair engineers and ask for estimates of the likely cost. It will save money if you can get the machine out for the repair man and refit it when the repair is completed.

Re: Whirlpool AA 1000 Integrated Washer drum not rotating

A couple of possibilities. The noise may have been collapsed drum bearings which has then caused the drum pulley to wobble and throw off the belt. Another thing to check for is loose concrete counterweight blocks which may have damaged the motor wiring. These faults should be obvious once you see inside the machine but then the next thing to check is the motor brushes.

Re: Can’t filter cap off Bosch Washing machine

It might be best to leave it until you have the new one before attacking the existing cap. The new one should come with a new sealing washer. If you drill a couple of holes and insert a pair of narrow nose pliers you should be able to turn it.

    Re: ISE Info

I have already emailed John Hopwood about this and received a reply so I think the information will be on its way. I should perhaps not have mentioned it on here as well but I had not realised that this is the first publicity material you have published for the machines 😳

Thanks for the reply. I want something I can show to Robert Cruickshank, who runs an appliance shop in Buckie. I did ask him if he would be interested in selling the machines and he did not rule out the idea though he had never heard of the brand. He does not offer whitegoods repairs but has a pile of my business cards to hand out when he gets enquiries. I had not realised there was a dishwasher amongst the range. I stopped repairing dishwashers when the nightmare machines with the full plastic base moulding were introduced.

Re: Hotpoint WF Series 30mm Seal

These seals arrived today but now I don’t know if they have sent me the wrong thing or they are correct but are not a washing machine part at all. They are just rubber grommets such as you would find in a vacuum cleaner. The part is called “Seal for drum shaft 30mm” MER026307. 😕
