ParticipantRe: Essential parts to always carry
I try to carry a good selection of carbon brushes for washing machines and belts for tumble dryers. I also have a few sizes of motor starter capacitors to cover dryers and the few washers that need them. I’ve never bought new ones but I have a range of electric water valves from scrap washing machines. Often you only need to change the solenoid coil. I keep about half a dozen door interlocks including Hotpoint WM and WMA types, Zanussi 3 and 4 tag. I also have a universal pump as fitted to Hotpoints, Zanussis etc. I keep 3 or 4 types of thermostat kits for Hotpoint/Creda dryers as they are also a common problem. I have a range of door handles and hinges also for Hotpoint and Zanussi washers/dryers.
For cookers I have 6″ & 7″ single and 7″ double spiral rings plus a couple of universal simmerstats. You can’t hope to carry fan oven or grill elements as there are hundreds of different sorts. Also worth keeping some sort of terminal block for the mains inlet on cookers as they often burn out due to insecure DIY wiring. You need assorted bits of wire including fibreglass covered stuff for cookers. Cable ties are also an essential item. Get a pack of 100 rubber washers for inlet hoses plus a few standard and extra long hoses.Phidom
ParticipantRe: I hate credit card companies
Today I’ve written to my bank complaining about the delay in my internet payment reaching MBNA and to MBNA themselves, complaining about the delay in sending out my bill. Apparently in Holland you can pay about £3 extra and get the internet bank payments to go through instantly. This proves that the delays are not down to technology but are a way for the banks to get interest on our money for a few days.

ParticipantRe: B&Q £149.00 Hoover washer,how???
Yes, B&Q has always been a shop with a few real bargains to get you in the place plus lots of other stuff at top price. In Elgin we have an independent DIY superstore called Decora. They have nothing like the buying power of B&Q but still manage to undercut them on things like paint, wallpaper etc.

You can check the air flow from the heater box to the drum by running with the door open.Good luck
Ah yes, never thought of that. I did take the condenser off and it was clean as a small wind instrument. What I could see of the spider through the bottom condenser inlet in the tub also looked clean.Phidom

Usually these temperature controls have a flat on the shaft and a corresponding flat on the knob orifice.

Thanks Martin. Masterpart list a model:
DOV317/1IX ST
Unfortunately, they don’t list any parts for this or the other DOV317 models 😕Phidom

Yes, up to my hair ribbon 😯

Thanks Brian. That explains it then. P2 is the switched live for the pilot light, not the neutral!! That seems very dangerous, using the same code for very different connections on equivalent devices. 👿

Thanks Goose 😀 I don’t have an account with Maddocks but hopefully I might be able to purchase the item.

ParticipantRe: Jackson Dishwasher 27904
Thanks Martin. I went back and tried fitting a spring from a washer front door seal wire but it’s too heavy. The door now shuts and the machine will run but it’s too hard to open the door. Usually you can see where there are holes for the spring hooks but not on this so it’s all very frustrating I will have to try a lighter spring.
It’s so annoying that they list a kit which you would expect to contain the parts needed but does not and then they discontinue the parts not in the kit. If they had just made all the parts obsolete I would not have attempted the repair. Now I’ve spent so long on the job that I really need to get it right to justify the size of bill. 🙁Phidom
ParticipantRe: Indesit WD12X integrated
Thanks for the tips. Yes it was the hook together type. What with that and the razor edge of the drum aperture it was one of those jobs you wish you could delegate! I didn’t have a suitable tool for stretching the hook ends so I hooked them together then worked the wire into its groove, like fitting a bike tyre, using 2 screwdrivers. This requires a bit of care as you could easily puncture the new seal but I got away with it.

ParticipantRe: Connect what a joke!
Well my last 2 orders to Connect have not been sent by DHL. Ah, they are trying someone else to get stuff there quicker, you are thinking to yourselves! Well think again, both have been sent by Royal Mail, who are themselves still in total chaos :rolls: One parcel was posted on the 10th so I suppose I can expect it some time toward the end of the month 👿 This includes a fan oven element to replace one ordered from Homespares on the 2nd but never received. The Homespares one is no doubt lost in their new warehouse somewhere.

Thanks Bryan, I had been going on what it says in the paper catalogue but I just looked on the website and you are right

ParticipantRe: Connect what a joke!
To be fair, none of the delivery firms claim to do next day delivery to remote areas such as my AB postcode area. I have several times received goods next day from Masterpart. I would like to use them more than I do and drop Connect but I have difficulty making up £75 orders to get free delivery. I could order less frequently and build up an order over a few days but that would mean keeping customers waiting longer.
