Definately need to Megger the Heater, if there’s any leakage they do all sorts of weird things.

Unfortunately Hotpoint / Indesit electronics are not known for their quality and appear to commit suicide for very little reason. Your best bet would be to either try EMW to get the PCB repaired or looking at a replacement machine. If your going to open the machine please remember power off & plug out first.

Hi Scott: Don’t worry about it we all make mistakes. You can do a basic check with a Multimeter, Set your meter to the highest ohms range & check from each pin on the motor connector to the metal motor frame. There should be no reading between any pin & the frame, unfortunately making these tests with a Multimeter is not really conclusive as the Motor insulation may break down at the normal mains voltage but still show open circuit to the low Voltage from a Multimeter, thats why Engineers use a Megger for these tests. Do you have a local Electrician you could get to do it for you?

I have a megger but am not brilliant with it, any pointers as to which way to check the armature etc greatly appreciated. ie, which pin in the multi plug and does the machine need to be on performing a wash, see told you i’m not much good with these things 😆
Cheers
Hey Scott: Do you have a Megger or a Multimeter? A Multimeter checks Voltage / Resistance etc whereas a Megger outputs 250, 500 or 1000 volts for testing. When checking the motor with a Megger make sure you unplug the wiring from the motor & test from the motor pins to Earth.
ALLWAYS MAKE SURE THE APPLIANCE IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE MAINS BEFORE OPENING IT UP.

ozz wrote:Change the heating element for around £20. I would imagine this will solve your problem, plus its cheaper than getting someone out with a megger to most prob tell you its the element or the motor. Hope this helps.
And if it’s not the Element but the Motor or other component, you will have just wasted money and still need an Engineer with a Megger to find & Cure the problem.

Have to be fair, i’ve done that more than once & never been turned down. If you need info & ask all the engineers are only too willing to help.

Hi: After having been a service agent for CDA I would’nt recommend them to anyone either & from experience they’re service in event of a fault is not very good.

Hi: If you look at the stickies at the top of the page, there’s 1 for people who have lost their instruction manuals. If you click on this you’ll find a link to Whirlpool manuals.
Hope that helps: Andy

ParticipantRe: Service/Repair Manual
If as you say we are just trying to protect our livelihoods by not giving out Tech info to the public, why would so many of us give up the amount of time we do to answer public queries on their appliance problems. Surely our answer to every query would then be to call an Engineer? As for people poking around with no information being more dangerous than doing it with guidance from the manual you are totally wrong. Manufacturer Tech manuals are written for Engineers who have been trained in Electrical safety, use of test equipment etc & have a grounding in Appliance technology. Unlike the Haynes type car repair manuals they don’t lead you by the nose through how to carry out testing & repair of a machine. In this instance the request was for a Washing machine manual, what if it had been for a Microwave oven? maybe we should give those out to the public as well?

Hey Steve, I knew it would be bad from what you said in your first post but did’nt realise quite how bad. Hope they can do something for you & that you eventually get some of the use & feeling back in your hand.

Hey Fase: Why not just go to Maplin & buy a 2 tone Piezo? You just connect 1 wire to Ground & 1 to your reverse light wire, Simples. They’re pretty cheap & work well, fitted 1 to the 4×4 about 2 years ago & it’s still going strong. (Saying that probably means it will pack up tomorrow).
