    Re: Service/Repair Manual

Hi Bill: Sorry to tell you but if you asked the question in the public forum then have to say yes. I would if you asked in the trade forum it might be a different matter.

Martin: Just because other people give out Manufacturer service info to members of the public, does’nt mean we have to follow suit. Not too long back someone I used to work with gave out a manual for a piece of machinery to a customer, next time the customers machine went wrong he tried to fix it himself & lost the top of his finger for his trouble. Guess who he is now trying to sue for damages, as if he had’nt had the manual he would’nt have tried to fix the machine. Thanks but i Don’t want to be put in that position.

You may not have an issue with takeing your computer apart, but by your own admission you know nothing about washing machines. If you open your machine up & do the wrong thing you could easily Electrocute :zap: yourself, in his reply to your original question Seamy gave you the possible causes of your problem. Unfortunately it could be any 1 of the items listed & you need to go through them with a test meter to locate your problem, to do this you need to know how each item is supposed to work or react when tested.

Hi: They mean the White outer casing. Do not under any circumstances remove this casing unless you are an ENGINEER qualified to do so, there is over 4000 volts at high current floating about inside even long after it’s switched off & this is more than enough to KILL you.

Hi Mike: Makes you wonder if the Site Manager actually went on a PAT testing course or was he Just given a PAT tester with pre-set parameters & told to rely on it’s results.
I’ve seen this quite a few times with local authorities & Big business, 1 person is the designated tester but often has no actual experience just relies on the pass fail indication given & the results printed out.

At least you got to the bottom of it in the end.

Re: Pat Test Failure Whirlpool ADP4501/5

Went back to this yesterday with the PAT testing electrician. He plugged in his PAT tester pushed the “insulation test” button and it read infinity. He then pressed the “earth leakage” button and it read 3.8/3.9ma. He said it has to be below 3.5ma to pass.
As expected I disconnected the L and N from the machine side of the suppressor and his readings were the same. Disconnected the L and N from the mains lead side and the readings were infinity and 0. Therefore as I previously thought it is the suppressors causing the fault. I have new ones coming but suspect these will read similar to the old ones.
If they do what happens then?

Hi Bazza: Personally I think that your a victim of this Electricians inexperience with PAT testing & there is no easy way around it, he can obviously see on the insulation test that there really doesn’t seem to be any problem but is relying on his PAT tester to think for him. It’s a known fact that filter networks across the Line & Earth terminals can cause unduly low readings in PAT testing but this does not mean there’s a fault on the appliance. Did you test the machine side with it disconnected from the filter? if you did I bet you got a good reading. I checked out a few PAT testers from different Manufacturers earlier & a lot of them don’t even incorporate this test, only the higher end one’s seem to have. If this was a compulsory test then they would all have.

    Hi Garn.

Thanks very much for your response.

Please could you elaborate a bit on this. If the equipment has the original factory fitted cable with fitted plug, why is the cable length relevant and how can this be incorporated into the auto test of the pat tester?

Hi Mike: Bit of a complicated 1, if you send me your email address I can explain it for you in Detail.

Hi All: Sorry I boobed earlier regarding Part P, I was trying to do 4 things at once & screwed up big time. 😳 Martin is totally correct Part P does not apply to replacement of existing fittings even in a Kitchen.

    Re: meggers

Hi guys: As far as i’m aware there’s no legal requirement for you to be 17th edition certified for doing any work such as removing a Spur front or Double pole switch. As for actually changing a Socket front or Light switch etc, this is still in the realms of DIY repair & does not come under Part P either. Unless said fitting is situated in a restricted area such as a Bathroom or Kitchen, if you just remove the front plate then you are not breaching any rules as you are not replacing a fitting.

Ah but do they work well? I want it to diagnose faults before I even see the appliance 😆 If you can find me 1 that can stop the customers Bitching about the cost of repairs, that would be even better. 😀
