my question is whether it is worth me calling out someone to repair it if they will only tell me that it costs too much to bother to repair it and i still have to pay £50 call out for them to do nothing. it cost less than £200

Your pump & possibly outlet hose are blocked & need cleaning out, this is well within the scope of a competent DIY’er.

PLEASE REMEMBER POWER OFF & PLUG OUT BEFORE ATTEMPTING REPAIR. 8)

If you don’t feel confident in your ability to do the repair, please see the repairs@ link for an Engineer local to you. I would try cleaning the pump filter first though.

O.K was the drum actually turning or was it just pumping out ?
You may just have a Blocked or Damaged pump, did it actually empty the
    drum ?

You said you looked up the fault, can you tell us what it shows ? from what you say about the rumbling sound when you put it to empty you may have a faulty or blocked pump, pumps are not that expensive but you have to consider whether you feel confident enough to check / replace the pump yourself or will you need an Engineer ?

Was there any water left inside the machine ? & have you checked that the outlet pipe from the pump to the sink is clear, you also need to check that the connection to the sink is clear.

If it’s a proper on / off switch not an Electronic pushbutton then yes it is replaceable as a DIY repair, if it’s an Electronic machine with just a press button then it may be a more complicated problem than just the Tac switch being faulty.

    Re: Ceramic hob problem

Unfortunately what you pay for an item is no guarantee of quality anymore, a lot of uninformed people say Hotpoint / Indesit is a good brand. Not so anymore in fact I think you will find it’s a pet hate of a lot of Engineers, their Electronics are to put it politely rubbish.
But as you have the hob now & it’s working, take Jims idea & use a Thermostatically controlled heater in the kitchen. It could well save you having to replace the hob.
As Jim says SIM card ? never heard of 1 being fitted to cooking appliances, maybe the engineer was having a bad day & couldn’t be bothered to check it out properly.

Re: Kal group, Ireland launches Nordmende white goods, anygo

I may be wrong but i would have thought that the Bosch was a good bet, for long life & spares availability.

If i’m wrong no doubt the boys will bend my ear over it, glad you decided on discretion regarding Nordmende. 🙂

Just hope to god that for your sake the Whitegoods are better than their Browngoods, we used to call them No mend Nordmend in the Trade for very good reason, have to be fair I haven’t worked on their Whitegoods so can’t comment on them but just be warned.

Hi the sleeves are for insulation to stop the legs of the resistor from shorting out to the components around it, theyr’e also heatproof because these resistors run quite warm.
The replacements won’t have this on them so you need to transfer it over,
they will also possibly be slightly larger but will fit comfortably.

O.K your meter is more than capable of measuring these resistors, if you take the resistor out completely & take it to your nearest Maplin store you should be able to get a replacement no problem. Make sure you check the other 1 just in case but it’s usually only 1 goes o/c. It may be an idea to get 2 incase it happens again in the future. 8)

If it happens again re-fit using a small drop of studlock fluid, available from all good carparts stores.

Us oldies need to stick together mate 😆 When you say resistors do they actually look like resistors or are they like a small stat i.e NTC type ?
If they are NTC type you should be able to get them, if like standard resistive elements then it’s probably time for a new element assembly.
The resistors are essential to correct operation.
Just for you to know this can be caused by opening the door mid cycle.

Firm I used to work for did all the wiring for commercial refridgeration systems for Tesco stores but I never got to do any other work on them.
I don’t repair refridgeration equipment as I can’t see the point spending on the kit for just 1 or 2 jobs. Thanks for clearing up the resistance readings for me, I was beginning to get worried about you 😆
