    Re: Financial Things

I’d agree on associate membership for sponsors; that funding will come in handy as things progress.
On the other hand, they should have no clout like Connect do with DASA. Their role, as Lawrence says, should be clearly seen as supportive of the independent repairers as, realistically, their survival largely depends on us. It will also set an example to the other wholesalers that the WTA will not to be steered by external forces with a vested interest.
    Other than that, no problem.

I’d like to comment on the quality of CAD design packages and college courses on graphic design……..but I won’t because I know very little about it. 😉
But I have repaired appliances for 24 years….. and fully agree with P45. 😀

Have you checked the pump for an intermittent obstruction? Common culprit is a piece of broken glass moving in and out of the pump intake and jamming it. If the customer has broken a glass in it that could be the problem. You may miss it first time because a clear fragment is difficult to see.
Drain the machine completely and syringe or sponge the sump dry. Check with a torch and it should show up. 😉
If not, pump off job. I would not suspect the PCB in the case of a intermittent pump.

Re: diplomat dishwasher 8322 7 flash fault

Error 7 = Flow meter failure.
Unplug machine, remove left side panel and the flow meter is the small PCB with an edge connector plug and wiring going to it. Pull off the plug , clean the edge contacts and refit plug. Test for function.

Power off, plug out before any inspection. :plug:

EMW do an info sheet on what areas of the WMA boards are likely to get blown tracks and why. 😉 Give Tony a call on (01159) 652118; he should be able to help. If you haven’t dealt with them before then get a brochure for refurbished guaranteed timers and PCB’s while you’re about it. 😀

Could be motor brushes failing or possibly a bra wire in between the drums. 😉

Have you checked / cleaned the filter? If it is blocked or the pump impeller is jammed, it will fault on rinse and spin. 😉

    Re: WD71P E30 PCB blown

I’ve had a few of the WD’s (fitted with the FHP motor) with a chafed loom where the wires are tied to the motor connector block metal support bracket. You cannot see the chafing until you cut off the zip tie and look closely. This will cause the board to fry on spin. 😉

    Hope that helps,

The PCB may not be ‘aware’ that the machine is empty. This is usually due to a pressure switch / water metering fault. The PCB could also be to blame.
Do not buy a PCB on a trial and error basis; click repairs@ for an engineer in your area. It will be quicker and cheaper in the long run. If you have tried everything suggested, you have exhausted all the possibilities open to you short of a strip down of the machine.
These machines have numerous issues with their control systems; most are inexpensive to fix and a trained eye will locate the fault easily. The PCB is very expensive and absolutely pointless if it doesn’t cure the fault. 😉

    Re: Hotpoint WM64

Sounds to me like the suspension is at fault. The drum will sit at an angle to the cabinet; the pulley will catch on the back panel (hence occasional clanging noise) and the door gasket will be twisted. The door will have to be forced shut.
Unplug machine and remove the lid. Ideally, the drum will sit square and high in the cabinet and the springs on the top will be opposing each other in a straight line and evenly tensioned. If this is not the case, or the drum is very low down in the cabinet it is likely that a suspension rod has:-
    1) Jumped out of its damper unit;
    2) Sheared off;
    3) Come adrift – ie: unscrewed itself.

All are relatively easy and cheap to repair. Hotpoint’s WM64 is the last decent type of washer Hotpoint ever made. If you can repair it at a modest cost, it will outlast a modern Hotpoint, even with the wear it has already had. If the hinge was broken in the course of a wash, it is usually due to the suspension collapsing and coming down, wash load and all on the door bowl. This can snap a hinge pin. 😉

The suspension job is a heavy and fiddly one!! Have a look first and see if you wish to attempt a repair yourself. Otherwise, help is at hand – click repairs@ for an engineer in your area.

Power off, plug out before any inspection. :plug: Stay alive!!

    Re: how hard to blow?

A faulty heater with a small voltage leak to earth can cause this. A faulty heater can only be successfully diagnosed by the use of an insulation test meter.
With all due respect, it is faster (and in the end, cheaper) to call an engineer to sort this problem. Where expensive electronic components are involved, trial and error methods can finish up costing you in unnecessary spares and wasted time.
Analogue pressure switches rarely fail in Zanussi machines; and a conclusive result cannot be obtained if you just blow into them because they do not ‘click’. By unplugging the switch and refitting it, you may have inadvertently tightened a loose connection. This may explain the burst of life you mentioned.
Time to click Repairs @, and get it working. 😉

I had exactly the same fault a year or so back – pump ran fine with no load. Ran through a cycle and the pump suddenly had no electrical supply from the PCB. Replaced the board and that sorted it. The problem was a faulty triac, methinks. 😉
Have you swapped the pump for new to eradicate the possibility of a jamming pump?

    Re: indesit cooker

Has it got a thermal cut out in the element supply wiring? If there is and it’s O/C, that could be the problem. If it’s OK or no cut out is fitted, then it is almost certainly the stat at fault.
Wiring out the thermostat will check if it’s faulty. You should now have power to the element.

Motor armature failure. This fault will cause the timer to ‘abort’ the cycle and click round to the stop position. The motor costs around £58 + VAT. (1249203009). Probably worth doing. 😉
