Know what you mean – when my 6 year old son had Meningitis B and was in hospital critically ill, we had a guy who would not understand that his recon machine would be delayed. He said, “OK; I realise your position but I have mountains of washing; I need that machine tomorrow”. I was incredulous…..I didn’t argue I was so shocked at his mindset. I had half finished the machine when my son was taken ill. We had been told to prepare ourselves as he was given less than 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} chance of survival. (He’s now 17 and a very bright A level student, as well as being a talented singer / songwriter, so all ended well).
Well, I got home from the hospital at 11pm that night and of course, I couldn’t sleep.
So I finished the Hotpoint recon and rang him at 3.30am the next day. “I’ll be delivering your machine in the next hour; please be available as this is the only delivery slot I have today”. I ignored his request to call later.
Delivered and fitted by 4.30am and what a weight off my shoulders. Sometimes when you are under extreme stress, you cannot see round the problem. I know I should have told him to stick it, but the sense of satisfaction seeing him making all the excuses was uplifting for me.Take it easy, Tony; hope you feel better.

Board fault Rob – probably a Mk 4 PCB. EMW do replacements for these; you will need the model number and the TCT FT or TCT FCT markings found in a square etching on the top edge of the PCB. 😉

Looks like it’s a scrapper then. 🙁 The PCB is very costly!!

Module or heater earth leak. Pull the wires off the heater and try again. Make sure the belt is tight and there is a good load in the drum.

ParticipantRe: Hoover HND615S – 80 dishwasher.
Im pulled one wire off that heater safety switch and it didn’t affect the pulse filling. The strange thing is that this machine fills until the water level touches the bottom rotor. That’s a pressure switch issue or the PCB surely. The pressure switches seem to have no influence on the pulsing even if disconnected with me activating them manually.
Add to that Connect don’t list the PCB…….. 👿
Any other thoughts?Steve.

ParticipantRe: Electrolux EWX14440W washer drier.
Thanks Mike, but this is fitted with a completely different PCB type to the previous problem machine – all the electronics apart from the drier control are behind the fascia. Would an o/c pump knock out the display also? Logically that shouldn’t happen…..but I haven’t tried that so I s’pose I’d better. 😕
This machine is £800 new when Googled last night….wow!Anyone else have anything else on this please?

Welcome aboard Steven!!
Ideas and enthusiasm are the main requirements for the WTA – the commitee are basically all engineers running our own businesses. Everyone sees that change in this industry is badly needed and DASA are not rising to the challenge.
So if you want something doing – do it yourself!! Hence the WTA.Grab an oar and dig in!!

I say we close the voting and propose that the 2 nominees be officially recognised at the September meeting. Of course this would be subject to membership approval, although the response from the membership ATM is noticable by its absence.
One suggestion – do we open the Trade Council Forum (this one) to Barry and Steve so they can get up to speed on what has been going on behind the scenes? This would save them being dropped in at the deep end come the meeting. They may even bring some fresh ideas to the table….. 😉Steve.

|’ve never understood that – I always had a suspicion that the ISE5/2 didn’t spin to 1600. Did Vestel ever remedy that? I had a few machines that had OOB faults that were difficult to explain away as the loads were not badly out of balance on test. The AW23 seems better in that department; I’ve had no issue at all with them.

ParticipantRe: Servis M4095 B/1 dishwasher.
Wiring diagram and parts list could be useful if they show any stats or thermisters. It is really crowded underneath this machine and difficult to see where stuff is.
Any help, especially tech info is greatly appreciated – thanks Rob.Steve.

ParticipantRe: WTA Elections 2009/11
The F gas regulations and compliance scheme is one area that has affected this trade, so the thin end of the wedge is already holding the door open……. 😉
If we have the numbers, we have a voice. If we do not unite, then the Government will just tell us what to do and that will not be good news for the independent repairers. The Code Of Practice will limit their interference and beaurocracy so giving us all a better chance of steering or own destiny. Public perception will be enhanced; we will be taken seriously.
I, for one would like to see this trade not only survive, but offer future employment in it for the youngsters. With the economic downturn teaching a lot of wasteful customers a stark lesson in common sense, there should hopefully be a brighter future for repairers. To use the Government’s own words, “The future is in our hands”.Steve.

Good news!! He’s been a UKW member since May 2005 and 924 posts so he is a regular contributor.
Maybe that development will prod some others into standing, you can live in hope. 😕 Post away Chris!!Steve.

ParticipantRe: white goods repairer
Well said, Chris!!
To use Lawrence’s analogy; it’s the few doing the much for the many. Those committee places have been offered for six months – nobody is prepared to stand.
Meanwhile, lots of people are moaning about this industry and how it’s in decline, nobody offers a solution, but there are a few (and they are the mods and the WTA that are coming in for all the criticism) that actually do care what happens and yes, are prepared to do something for no reward. I must say that I resented the inference in another thread (Are your ears burning? in General Forum) that certain members get a ‘kick back’ out of the WTA and UKW. I post because I wish to help fellow engineers; it’s called backscratching. Technically, I’m helping my competition to take jobs from me. If I didn’t help, would that mean I’d get that job? Of course not. So by the same token, if you decide to help someone on the public forums, does it mean that if you didn’t, he would admit defeat and call an engineer? You are deluded if you believe that to be the case. But if you don’t wish to help and want to remain an island, that’s fine. But don’t deride people who do.I help with the WTA and would hope that others would support us in our efforts to get this trade the recognition it deserves in the eyes of the Government and the public at large. I am a one man band struggling to keep up with my workload, but I still find time (and money for hotel bills and fuel) to attend meetings to try and improve the fortunes of this trade for everyone. Why do I do it? I have faith that our efforts will pay off, but it will take time and it won’t be easy. But it will be worthwhile once achieved. Then the engineers will benefit, working together they will have more clout with suppliers and manufacturers. The ability to steer our destiny rather than having Whitehall dictate it for us.
That’s what UKW and the WTA have been doing. Cut us some slack, guys, we ARE doing it for nowt; make no mistake about that. In fact, it costs us money we don’t really need to spend. If you are paying, you can shout. If you are not, and you see things that can be improved, then roll up your sleeves and help.
If you see this trade declining, then do something positive. Sitting on your hands and spouting the bleedin’ obvious helps no – one. There is one thing that seems to be alive and well in this trade – and that’s apathy.
This post is not intended to offend or chastise, it was the point at which my resolve hit the buffers. And for the first time I asked myself “Why should I bother?”Steve.
