ModeratorRe: Automated call/invoice software
1) a quick and efficient way of booking the call in the first place, cutomers dont like to be treated like a multi-national call centre when booking a service call with the small shop down the road.
2) receptionist need to see a complete list of calls already booked for a certain day so we can offer an appointment accordingly.
3) automatic notes for a returning customer to which we can add any problems we may have associated wtih them in the past eg. bad payers, washing machine covered in chinchila shit etc.
4)flexibility. Customers are always changing their appointment at the last moment, this must not become a major hassle to do so.
5) a print out of all jobs for a certain engineer on one sheet so he/she can see all his jobs on one sheet.
6) I think a stand alone call booking system would suit us better than the all singing all dancing all invoicing, accounting, email sending ones that are around right now.
7) maybe to work on something a bit cheaper than ms Access which they all seem to use right now.
Geoff Roland who is on this site did have something on offer a few years ago, maybe he would like to add something here.

ModeratorRe: Get rid of old scrap w/m
Have you seen the price of scrap metal lately? it has skyrocketed and scrapyards are now welcoming us back again and even offerring money. I dont think they have cottonned on to the fact that there isnt much “metal” in washing machines nowdays. But fridges? leave em at the customers.

ModeratorRe: New Hotpoint Display Stock 04
Bit off topic here but some years ago when I had a second shop in north London we became a Hopoint centre and just the mention of Centre display stock brings back memories of woodgrain fridge freezers that would never sell and the thought of more of them coming in 6 months later. Yeah, display stock certainly increaces sales but only you know your area and what should be displayed and what shouldnt. Our number 1 priority is back room stock as most people will not wait 3 weeks for whateverr to be ordered they want it now and boxed at that or they will just go elswhere.

ModeratorRe: Dual Fuel Cookers – Corgi or not?
OK, so you all heard about the guy who died cooking marmalade this week? Imagine if I or you had replaced the oven element the day before. No connection I know but just who would get the blame?
Having said that, dual fuel is BIG business and element replacement must be the most profitable side of our repair business so we will not turn them down. We have a corgi guy we contract for the odd gas work we do, and you know what, he wont touch the electric side.eastlmark

Indesit WD late washer dryer eg WDE12.
F13 dryer thermistor circuit fault.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: Indesit WDE12uk F13 code
Good call penquin!
I ordered a dryer thermister for the hell of it as it was cheap but the real fault was found while replacing it, the wires on the spade terminals on the thermistor were connected by insulation only, they pulled clean off the wire with no effort at all.
Something to look out for on late indesit washer dryers as it seems they have inherited the breaking wires that plagued Hotpoint washer dryers over the years.

ModeratorRe: Indesit Evolution 1600 Fault Code F03
Its probably a temperature sensor fault. Not easy to prove without replacing the part first and its is a very complex control unit on this appliance and probably not for DIY.

ModeratorRe: Most ridiculous part price
This is a good one.
Kupperbusch dishwasher, made by electrolux the type with the iwms unit in the left hand panel. The mod kit to prevent the sticking of the antiflood valve. Kupperbusch part number: 435326 price retail £208.80 +vat! Part arrives with electrolux label part number 50274488001 price £28. considering this is to fix a basic design fault it should really be free of charge.
Result, one part heading back to kuperbusch and one being ordered from elux.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: What have you got?
We are the proud owner of “the last great Philco” the RWM1041 (but with rwm1012 knobs on it and the chromed door of the heavy duty and I retro fitted the old 3 pointed star filter. My mother had a Philco 7147 (not even an A) that was still going strong until early last year and was only replaced as I had a shed load of N1042’s to get rid off, its going on ok but it has that dodgy eeprom module so I have nightmares of her ringing me up reporting the knob going around and around.
No dishwasher here, candy cheap Larder fridge and Ocean freezer, new world gas oven.
Just as an aside, my wifes mother has a Sanyo twin tubb! complete with attatchment to suck used water out of the bath for the wash water.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: Stoves Oven Cooling Fan
This is a particularly noisy cooling fan as its almost a cooker hood fan, I notice that they run a 100r resistor in series with it, whether that was an after thought to slow it down or what I dont know. Anyhow, these resistors tend to burn out, I had one on Saturday.

ModeratorRe: Another Indesit timer clicking round
Just as a follow up to my earlier W143UK module not fitting post, i called GDA today and quoted the 3 differrent module part numbers quoted on Partfinder and was told that NONE of them were the correct part number for that model. So beware the inaccurate info on that disc and check before ordering.

ModeratorRe: Hotpoint WM Series Armatures OBSOLETE!
When the 410 controls came out some while ago I researched the differing motors and using tech info from a Hotpoint engineer discovered the the resistance for the new armatures was slightly differrent to that of the recommended motors, along with the tacho as mentioned here. I therefore decided they could not be used as replacements. Having said all that my engineers started fitting them regardless and without any known problem arising.
