    Happy new year!

Edit. Just seen American style refrigerator on tv £399. How long will that last? Mine has just had it’s 20th birthday.

Seen a couple of these and the motor is capacitor start. If the capacitor goes down the motor sits and over heats and pops the thermal fuse and then you have to relpace the lot.
And yes it is through Repairtech

Re: Maytag GZ2727GEHW Scale in ice cubes

A common complaint in hard water areas. Ice stored for even a short time in a frost free environment will shrink as water is removed from the surface leaving behind the dissolved minerals.
Best tip is to use the ice from the top of the hopper and not store ice for long periods.

Just had my car repaired this week. Both front suspension arms/ball joints/anti rollbar bushings etc.
Only done 35k miles in 2.5 years. Damage caused by potholes and speed humps.
Fortunately all covered by warranty except for the knackered tyres.
Why don’t they use all that tarmac to mend the holes in the road instead of building speed humps.

I just listened to a person from Which being interviewed on the radio and he was very specific in his reply to the fire risk question.
“The refrigerator flammable plastic rear wall is not a fire hazard in itself but could contribute to a fire in the home”
So basically the fire needs to start somewhere else and spread to the fridge.
I think that more effort should be put into general fire safety education and stop this headline grabbing BS.

Re: Admiral (Whirlpool) GC2027HNKBS Ice Maker Fault

PCB faults tend to come and go sometimes with these Whirlpool built machines as capacitors slowly weaken.
I had one which was doing exactly the same as yours and it was the front PCB which I sent away to be repaired.
Access to the PCB on your fridge is gained by removing the cladding on the freezer door which comes off fairly easily after removing the door handle.

    Re: Water filled weights?

So the washing program starts with 25 litres of cold water in a tank on the top which will draw heat from the tub as it heats up and using more electricity as it does so.
That won’t do the energy ratings much good I think.

No issues with payments for me but I have had no new jobs from them since I kicked back a drum change job as per the WTA agreement and that was about 6 weeks ago.
I think that there is an over supply of available labour in my area and they can pick and choose who they give the work to.
Never was a big part of what I do so not panicking and as I always say “when one door slams in your face another one always opens”

Re: Whirlpool Top loader tap adapter

I have seen lots of these machines which after many years of use have needed new inlet hoses due to deterioration.
Due to cost and non availability of spares I fit a standard 3/4 bsp hose which does away with the need for the adaptor which is only for the tap end.
The thread on the inlet valve is not too dissimilar to 3/4 bsp and it will go on ok and no need for PTFE tape as the seal is on the rubber washer and not on the threads.
Not all hoses are the same and some fit better than others so maybe try a different make.

I know that beer needs to be fermented at coolish temperatures but with fridge temperatures of 5C or less I wouldn’t expect you to get your beer to ferment at all.
It has been too warm recently for brewing as ideally a temperature of 18/20C is best so what I do is make lots of beer before summer comes and chill a few when needed.
Currently I have 200+ bottles on standby for the summer BBQs

Unless it’s been stuck on with nonails adhesive or similar.
I have come across this so many times where the installation instructions have been beyond the understanding of the fitter as it is all in diagram form with no words and they think “fe#k this” and glue it on.
