    Can’t find their site?

By online I meant whilst sat at my PC.

They don’t have a site as far as I know, only a small concern. I think they use a version of the Qualtex, Gmax software. It used to link into their main PC, but it now compiles the order and sends it via fax.

DS Supplies from Stoke, for many years they had a unit in Oldham, very near to me that traded as Shippers. Unfortunately the local council raised the rents so high that they retrenched back to Stoke many years ago. Certain occurences lately make me think that they may be having difficulties and I am not sentimental enough to allow others problems to impact on my business, so I am monitoring the situation. I do most of my ordering online with them, only phoning for the occasional rarely used part. Often whilst still in ( or near 😉 ) the customers house. That way I can give them a reasonable idea of the cost of the job.

Used them for over 10 years, almost personal friends, As I work from home they have my garage key and delivered 3 days a week until recently. I even used to play squash with one of their drivers when he was staying with relatives in this area. A good relationship that I see no reason to change at the moment. I do get bombarded with mailshots, from SEME et al, but every time I mention others prices to my friends, they usually match them.

Will bear your suggestions in mind. you never know what is round the corner.

BIG MISTAKE. You should never, ever turn any domestic appliance that uses water, upside down.

The damage you may well have done could be causing error messages.

Part number is 1701583 if the date code is after DC 65 and 1701557 if it is before date code 64. Comes as a pair, available from the Shop@. Handle the new ones with care, be sure to remove the mains plug beforehand.

The date code is the first 2 numbers of the serial number, usually found on the hinge or door trim.

Edit. If it has a green spot then you need 1701583. The green spot stat is the safety cut out, don’t run the dryer for to long without it. :lesson:

However would kick up stink if a second hand tub with a bearing kit turned up for us to do. I think you should ask the company invovled for full explanation b4 you expose them on this site.

Ah, but the label inside didn’t say refurbished, it said ” Recycled ” with a little recycling logo underneath, so much more PC…. 😛 🙁

    Re: Fan Assisted Oven

A model name/number would be a good starting point. 😉 In most cases the actual control behind the knob is the thermostat, from this a very thin, long hollow tube goes down into the oven itself to the phial which is the thicker end of the tube. This is usually at the back towards the top of the oven, sometimes behind the inner liners.

Quick update, was a module fault. Close inspection revealed a small amount of arcing at the bottom of the board on the opposite side to the white plug with 4 full size spade terminals, this had burnt through one small PCB track. Quick clean up, out with the soldering iron and a small link wire, fault cured. I suspect the fact that this machine had been stood unused for long periods in a caravan may have contibuted to this, but just in case I made use of a strong plastic bag to make a water shield.

One question, when people talk about the EEPROM, how are these supposed to be changed in the field ? Surely you don’t have to solder every single connection to this.

My eye/hand coordination would make this rather difficult at my age. 😉
I have to remove the varifocals for very close up work as it is. 🙂

Many years ago I rigged up something for a local chap with a Top Loader that was below ground level.

He supplied a full size plastic drum, the size of an oil drum and a fish pond submersible pump.

I fitted the full pressure switch, hose and chamber from an old machine and adjusted the levels so that it tripped when the drum was just over half full then reset when almost empty. It had to have water covering the pump to keep it primed.

It was very much a tribute to Heath Robinson, but it worked for many years.

You may not have any ‘real’ women round your way then, went to one last week that had ripped the heater out of a Hotpoint WMA, mind you it was something that Alexa would be more familiar with., it was more boomerang than bra wire, 😀

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

Customers who ‘know it all’ . I find people who work in IT and mechanics are the worst.

The IT people always think an electrical fault has got to be the timer/module/programmer.

The mechanic dives in without asking, thinking that whats good for his car is also likely to sort out his washer.

For example, I once went to a Hotpoint with the old Crouzet timer. slid out the facia to find that every single one of the 80 or so wires had a neat little label attached with the terminal number on it. This computer programmer bod, had diagnosed the fault and stuck in a very expensive timer and even after his careful labelling managed to get a couple wrong. He still wouldn’t accept that the OC cold valve had caused it to stick on the rinses. 😥

On another occasion a car mechanic rang me slagging off Hotpoint’s poor quality. He was attempting a bearing repair on a 9000 series, and had removed the large locking nut from the drum pulley. He thought the drum pulley was a load of c**p because it snapped as soon as he tried to draw it off with his pulley drawers. 😯 😀

If I go to any calls of this nature, my first comment is, ” whats your husbands day job, Demolition Contractor” ?

Re: Indesit W161 UK Bearing change

Gave it the blowtorch treatment before I tried and this rascal snapped 2 brand new Halfords Professional T40 sockets. 😯

Went back to Halfords and they would have replaced them but they were N/S. 😥 mind you they are made in China. 😉

I think that this one would have seen off a Snap-On T40 .

As the machine is 5 years old the customer decided to have a new machine so I now have a bearing kit for the next time … can’t wait. 😥
