Definitely going to put Zanussi on my “discourage purchase of” list from now on. Not much left that’s not on that list now.

    Re: Whirlpool awg5122 bearings

Maybe it would be worth offering to dismantle it for £X on the basis that if the parts inside turned out to be unobtainable you would call it BER only at that point. My guess is there’s a good chance they’ll be common sizes. Even unusual seals can often be substituted with a similar size.

That specimen has done well to last this long! Must be an old lady using it once a week and living in a tidy, dry and well insulated bungalow.
You could do a search on here in Trade Technical Enquiries using just the model no. You’d probably find enough to keep you entertained for hours and on and on and on…

in reply to: AEG lavamat 62820 What is a “barrel ring”? #298285

Re: AEG lavamat 62820 What is a “barrel ring”?

Went to have a look this morning. Sadly it feels like I will only need the bearings, not worn enough to have damaged the ring. Too many mechanics on board must have noticed the noise. Also won’t get a free trip to the isles as they’ll be in dry dock for the next couple of weeks 😥 .
Barrel ring is in stock at Lux for £10.45 if anyone ever reads this in search of one.
    Thanks for the help, guys.

    Re: MEGGER

I got a Gossen Metra Hit 16I (German) off e-bay about a year ago. It is brilliant. One meter does everything. Insulation tester 500/1000 plus auto ranging ohms, volts, uF, temp, diode test, audio signal. And it’s not much bigger than an average multi meter. Does cost about £400 plus from Farnell but maybe there’ll be another one on e-bay for £40?

    Re: Beko Tacho

Presumably it’s broken just at the plastic moulding? Scrape away the plastic till you have enough wire to solder to, then cover the joint in quick setting epoxy putty to avoid any movement.

Will it let you access the diagnostics? If not, I’d go hunting with the megger and the meter before blaming the board. Plus checking all the connections and connectors. How long does pump run for? Is the p/sw not resetting to empty?

Re: AEG lavamat 62820 What is a “barrel ring”?

It’s on the cargo boat to the Scillies. They reckon’ they don’t want to have to get a new one as the room it’s in doesn’t have a big enough door.
I’m quite looking forward to changing a barrel ring, anyway. Make a nice change from sending it to landfill.

in reply to: Bosch WFF2000gb/14 – Main Bearing Change #298135

Re: Bosch WFF2000gb/14 – Main Bearing Change

Did one a year or so ago. Was a piece of cake. Can’t remember about the bits. Probably used genuine seal and generic bearings. Think Bosch sell the seals seperately. Wasn’t expensive and you can hike the parts price a bit and still give a good deal ’cause the genuine bearings are such a rip off price.

in reply to: LG PCB repair? #298132

    Re: LG PCB repair?

What fuses is it blowing? Is it a fuse on the module? Couldn’t see a pcb mounted uf drawing enough current to blow a 13 amp plug fuse, unless it’s pretty big. Think it could be a side issue.

in reply to: Debor Glue #297815

    Re: Debor Glue

There’s no need to wait with debor. The solvent is so volatile it will form a skin in seconds. By the time you’ve got the plug in and the water turned back on it’ll be water tight.
Ah…. that’s if you’ve used it to seal a hose connection which would probably have been OK without it anyway.
If OTOH you’re using it to repair a rusted drum, then you’d better leave it for a week, and then be ready for a call back. It ain’t meant for repairing holes in drums. Nor for repairing rotted hoses. I’ve seen the disasters that result from such attempted repairs.
I used debor for the last twenty years but recently switched to silicone for most purposes thinking it less likely to injure my health.

in reply to: Low water pressure machines #297592

    Re: Low water pressure machines

Hotpoint used to sell a special low pressure valve but I don’t know if they still do. It was probably just an ordinary valve with the restrictors taken out anyway. (And that is something worth trying. Get the filter out, then take out a little rubber washer using forceps or snipe pliers. There may be a plastic thing behind that too. You should end up with a completely open inlet to the valve.)
