Mandells, you might find this thread of interest. http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … r+elementI was able to use a IWH costing £20 less using only the pics on Connect’s site.

Steve, what would you do in this scenario:9 years old WM52 with drum and bearings shot, door not locking easily and motor hovering around the 1Mohms?
.
Tim, What do you imagine Hotpoint would do?
Would that be £99 x 1, or £99 x 3 at 3monthly intervals?

I would normally tell them about the 5 year cover where it was appropriate. Obviously, any job I can do for under £100 parts included (i.e. around 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of all Hotpoint jobs I look at) it would be pointless to mention it. That really just leaves the WMA bearing/spiders which I am not interested in anyway. I either advise them of the Hotpoint deal or tell them to call another local independent.

I didn’t know about this new deal. Does it apply also to WM and 95 series? (Not that anyone would want to spend £99 on a machine as old as that). Just wondering, too, if a customer pays out £99 for a new pair of brushes and then needs a pump a few weeks later, is that another £99?
Maybe they’ve got fed up with trying to flog those crummy new machines and have decided to try and make their money on repairs?

Just to round off this one.
Got new s/h board from EMW which looked totally untouched, so don’t know if they were able to fix mine. Did the trick, anyway.

They’ll have to incorporate a refrigeration system instead for use in summer. 😆

RS do about seven resistors around this value/power. I chose to get this one
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear … &x=28&y=12
because it looks about right and five seems a reasonably useful quantity.
Total price is £1.60 for the five including next day delivery! I find RS really useful for this reason. All deliveries are free and next day, even if you’re spending 50p.
Some of their stuff looks expensive but that’s because they don’t stock rubbish.
Very well worth while registering your card details with them so you can order anytime.
Great for relays, resistors, thermal fuses, switches, tocs etc.

What happens is that one brush wears down a lot quicker than the other. In fact, the second brush isn’t much shorter than new. Does this give any clue to the problem?

Pressure switch is a likely candidate. Take old one off and prise it open with flat screwdriver(s), taking care not to get blood everywhere. If you find contacts are burnt a bit, clean them up, reassemble to see if that works and if so, order new p/sw. Alternatively just try in a new p/sw.

Bit cheaper…… 😉Steve.
Not sure about comm sticks, have heard they can make things worse.
If I can find a good engineer with a good lathe who hasn’t taken early retirement yet, I reckon it won’t cost much. Shouldn’t think it would take more than 20 mins. including setting up the lathe.

aclarke wrote:is that a NOVOTRONIC machine? as mite have motor for one of them kicking about somewhere
Didn’t look to see what it was called. Everything was in french anyway so it would probably be Novotronique 🙂 .
I haven’t been able to find a pic of the motor so I’m not even sure about which one it is. (Only seen it from the brush end). Brushes fit into a plastic housing which also incorporates tacho coil and you unscrew four torx fixing screws to pull it off and fit new brushes without moving machine. They’re the brushes with red rubber bits round them.

Doh! Didn’t even think of looking up there.
Thanks for quick reply, helo.

ParticipantRe: Indesit Widl102 Sticking On Wash Cycle
You could give Tony at EMW a ring and see what he thinks, 0115 9652118.
Very odd fault. Would have thought it has either to be connection problem or module. Would have thought it would have thrown up an error code and ought to have either not heated or boiled if sensor/relay was not working.

Sounds like a job for EMW.

Fitted the new stat and all is well now apparently, though she says the oven seems to run a bit cooler now so sounds like she’d got used to it being too hot.
