    Re: Siemens WM50201GB/01 spider.

I made a couple of calls to BSH this morning but all I got was buck passing. So I have sent the following e-mail to mks-customerliaison@bshg.com

“Dear Sir or Madam,I have a customer with a Siemens WM50201GB/01 washing machine which is in excellent condition, having had little use due to being in a second home. The drum support assembly (also known in the trade as “spider”), which bolts onto the back of the inner drum is only listed as complete inner drum @ £203.40. The exploded diagram shows the spider separated from the inner drum. Please could you explain to me why the spider is not available separately. Please reply as soon as possible.Yours Sincerely, “

I’ve got time because the customer is able to wait. So I’m going to give them some stick about this. If I don’t get a satisfactory answer I’m going to Trading Standards and if that don’t work, it’s Watchdog.

I don’t mean siphoning, I mean back flow.

How long is the drain hose? There’s always going to be some water in the sump, the amount will depend on the length of the drain hose and its path to the sink or standpipe. Maybe an anti-syphon valve spliced into the hose at its highest point might help here. Or it might only be necessary to raise the hose a bit so water can get away.
Timer sounds like a total shot in the dark!

Checked for syphoning? (If I keep posting this answer enough times I’m sure to be right once).

I forgot to mention that it’s best to give them time to warm up again before fitting the shaft. 🙂

The thermal fuse is equivalent to a non-resettable toc. Thus you may find the problem recurs if stat tuns out to be faulty. Keep your fingers crossed.

I ask the customer to put the new bearings in the freezer as soon as I arrive at the house. They’re shrinking down while I’m splitting the tub. 😉

If error code F8 don’t forget to check pressure switch, preferably by substitution. Burnt but still functional contacts seem able to cause this fault.

Thanks for all the info Chris. I’m thinking I may have cooked the module when I did the megger check using my super new meter. But hopefully it might just be a wire pulled off the rear pump. Will post outcome in just over a week’s time.

    Re: Advice to hotpoint customers

I don’t really get what this offer means.
I’ve had to do a new motor, new bearings, and now heater element on a seven year old WM series all within a year.
That would have cost the customer £297 if they had gone to Hotpoint. What customer would keep forking out £99’s at that rate?

    Re: Hoover Six Range

Had exactly this fault yesterday on a HF7 130M. First time IME AFAI recall.
I think it’s the difference between soft water areas (as here) and hard water ones.
