Had a WMA once taking water in during spin and Penguin pointed me to worn brushes (IIRC), and he was right.

Think the extra lead was to a split field coil, so maybe it gets 1000 now but not 1200?

Maybe once the element gets hot its insulation resistance drops below the critical level of 40 megohms.

I carry a Hotpoint WM series lock with me with extended leads attached. If I can work out the L,N,C positions on any suspect 3-terminal lock, I can substitute in the cheap lock to try it.

    Re: Whirlpool AWM9000 Fault

I have never seen this model, nor looked it up but there are three things I have known to cause “no go” on Whirlpool washers. These are low brushes, o/c htr element and lastly a fusible resistor on the board (22R – has been much discussed in this forum). Oh and if it’s a commercial t/loader, it might have a 6.3A slow blow fuse in a wiring loom somewhere near the top – or was that t/dryers?

It just might be one of those. The symptoms vary a lot.
The capacitor concerned is usually a polysomethingorotherplastic type = a grey or blue plastic rectangular job. Once you’ve identified it, you’ll probably need to desolder one end to test it with a uF meter.

Don’t be afraid to check the main pcb for a sticking relay. I don’t know your model but Miele boards are not totally inscrutable especially when you have the wiring diagram tucked in there somewhere.

😕 So it’s after the main wash that things get held up? Not plumbed to hot instead of cold or to a very low pressure supply?

    Re: Bosch d/w SG45E02GB/56

Since you’ve got 0 mins in display but circ pmp still running and with low water(?) it sounds like a switching fault somewhere. I’d be checking for a shorted switch above the red float (anybody mucked about with connector before you got there?) or a stuck relay or shorted triac on the board or possibly something going on around motor connection.

    Re: hotpoint timer

Phew! That’s pretty skilfull sounding. Hats off to Dave. I often used to just bridge the neutral as the switching was still working on the live side and if it was gone on the live side and OK on neutral, I would swap them round. Not ideal I know, but the chances of a problem arising would be pretty remote. Even that method was a tad fiddly though because you have to bridge two neutral wires to one or something, I don’t remember exactly. Think EMW might still do some re-cons.

RS and others sell generic stats if it’s a simple Klixon type. You can also find them on ebay. They often come from China; as the machine may also :rolls: .

Job was a cinch, just like John said  . Wish I could find a few more like that. One thing to note, pulley nut is 18mm – not something you come across every day.
