I have come across this problem before too. They can be a bit tight and break a cheap torx bit. You can usually loosen them by centre punching the screwhead at an angle to start it on its anticlockwise way. Or if things get really desperate, saw through the plastic lugs. Replace with a normal 8mm head screw and a large washer.

Repaired one a few years ago which had blown a 1cm hole around its relay leg. I repaired the damaged tracks with copper braid and replaced the relay. Still going strong when I visited a few weeks ago. Was unrelated to other components.

Look for condensation on motor brush holders. Megger will probably show insulation below 40 megohms.

Thanks for the part number, so it is the odd sized ones.
I think you mean, “insanity”. 🙂

E42 is one of 5 door related alarm codes. It reads “E42 Problems of door closure – Door interlock faulty; wiring faulty;
PCB faulty. – Cycle paused.” I still think you may just need to cancel it – but I could be wrong.

OK, I’ve looked it up in the service manual. To cancel the last alarm code you have to 1. enter diagnostics mode 2.select 10th position = “reading of alarm” (so I think this would be the 10th led as you move through them by pressing the option buttons) 3. When you have reached that point, press and hold start/pause and skip/reset.
Anyway, I’ll see if it’s possible to send you something via that little blue envelope button. If nothing arrives pm me your e-mail address.

I’m not too sure about these things but it may be that you just need to “clear the last error code”, then it will all work. As I say, I have minimal experience of this but you could try a search using those words until someone confirms or denies this is the problem.

A machine like that one isn’t worth spending much money on. I’d advise the customer to use it with a plug in timeswitch so the power is cut off automatically after an appropriate period.

I think that’s a “low end” model with the single board behind the fascia. I think they are the ones which are so unreliable that they caused EMW to reduce their guarantee period to six months.
Umm Just a second thought on that – wonder if they have a medium sized capacitor somewhere which is under rated – this sounds remarkably similar to the Hotpoint 680uf 10v scenario.
See, “simple pcb repairs” sticky post 1.

Well if there was someone doing board repairs at a tenner, he wouldn’t have much time left for sleeping. 😆
