Re: whirlpool dryer awz3413 start button

I don’t know this particular model or series but flexible plastics are difficult to glue successfully.
Some have had success with using a soldering iron to weld things back together. When I try that it usually just makes things worse; I think it requires a light touch.
I usually drill small holes in adjacent pieces of plastic and “sew” them together either with small cable ties or with thin wire. Fiddly but satisfying if you get it to work reliably and are able to save the customer silly parts money.
In cases where customers aren’t fussy, you can sometimes get round these things by using a small stick poked through the hole left by the broken off button.

    I think there is also a WMB10W.
    They’re probably all similar anyway.

Let us all know how you get on. Probably going to become a common job soon enough.

Re: Howdens Joinery HJA8552 boiling the wash apparently?

Well I went, I changed the selector and I gave it one go at 40 deg and it went through OK. Told him to give it a trial before letting any more guests in there. He told me he’d had a claim for £400 for a wash load of designer clothes before calling me. It is a rather posh place but that sounds like he’s either exaggerating or they were, at least. It’s been over a week now and no call-back so I’m winding up the thread in the hope that’s the end of it.
Would never have guessed that one, so many thanks to you Bob; the pints I owe you are stacking up.
I guess cleaning the contact areas might have cured it but wouldn’t have been worth the risk in this case with the job being so remote.

Either it’s trapped by something in its way or there’s a bit of plastic / food debris blocking one or more of the sideways pointing holes.

Had something like it a couple of weeks ago. Similar but probably not the same model. Turned out to have two buttons on front linked by a lock symbol (only seen when observed closely – after I’d been there for half an hour). Child lock.

I beg to differ. It doesn’t really matter but I prefer ordinary silicone because it is a bit cheaper and doesn’t shrink in the gap as it cures. Use enough debor to rid the kitchen of all oxygen breathing life and it will of course work just as well 😆 .

Re: Hotpoint FDW60 – temperamental draining

Have to disagree about 6 times being sufficient testing for a pump. I always switch them on & off a minimum of ten times with a few seconds between each attempt to allow water body to settle. Once the pump starts, it will normally finish so there’s no point in doing lots of complete drain cycles.
The fault could equally be due to a flip / flop type blockage though, such as produced by a bit of flimsy plastic packaging.

Couple of times about ten years ago I had two local slimlines doing this and both got BER’d because I couldn’t figure out why but the motors seemed to only run at half the normal speed 😕 .

Had a quick shufty. Don’t think your model’s in there, but it’s interesting reading anyway, especially the five pages of comments at the end.
I think you’re supposed to get an info leaflet in the box with the module and it’s often missing. I’m just vaguely recalling what I’ve read on this forum over many years; have never bought a new Bosch module myself. Martin might be able to help with that.

Thanks Jim and cap’n, your help on this one has been very enlightening. I feel a little better equipped now to tackle the next errant Lux product that has the audacity to try and waste my time 😀 .

Doh! Silly last post. Had replacing the relays sorted it I would hardly have come away thinking I needed a motor.
So customer says I can take any bits off I want. (Unstated perhaps, “You might charge me a little less?” 😆 ) I declined but am now thinking it might be worth having pcb as they can be re-configured for different models from front panel, can’t they? Or is that just something I dreamt?
Repman Jim, how many intermittent E52s do you see in the course of a year? I had stupidly assumed they had all been relay joints but perhaps that’s only a proportion of the ones you’ve seen?

    Re: bosch sgs56e12gb/01

Could be one of the models on the re-call list? There were some problems a couple of years ago with boards going up in smoke and Bosch were sending out all sorts of bods with new boards to save their reputation. IIRC there were lots of problems getting new boards to work with old machines.
The list is on here somewhere.

    Re: Hotpoint DF31 Dishwasher.

Had a WM series washer with hybrid timer do that about 10 years ago. New timer sorted it. But as it’s quite an old dishwasher and timer may be expensive or obsolete, what about using it with a plug-in digital timer at the wall socket (if accessible)?

bradley wrote: or do I just have to spend £40 on the part and keep my fingers crossed? Thanks in advance for any help.

Whether or not it is relevant in this particular case, it is never necessary to spend £40 on a Whirlpool flowmeter. Just do a search using the term, “reed switch” at top left of this page.
