He did ask nicely after all Jim, yes PM the info he needs and no doubt he will thank you within the forum shortly afterwards.

Sounds as though the ‘reset’ part is not working first of all. If I recall to reset these you need to set the selector to the only unmarked position on the dial then press start. That should then clear the last programme which in this case is a rinse & spin on high level setting I guess?

The pump running for one minute and then the relay clicking indicates to me that it wants to fill (start of rinse sequence and all that!) so maybe the inlet valve needs a gander at???

Whilst you can still enjoy the benefit of the manufacturers guarantee, I would call them in to replace the damaged part yet again. Whilst Hotpoint machines do have this apparent design weakness, I would also suggest you do not accept the status quo.

If reducing the spin speed is the only true answer to the problem (as the Hotpoint engineer suggests) then I would claim your machine is not fit for the purpose for which it was designed.

A free replacement machine might be the only acceptable answer perhaps?

One of the brushes most likely has overheated and is sticking in its housing 😉

    Re: Bosch S6R25B dishwasher

Interestingly enough your elderly model of dishwasher WILL operate perfectly satisfactorily on a hot water supply. Provided the ‘head’ of water is at least 10 feet and the temperature does not exceed 65 degrees. It is true that the later series of machines are designed for cold water only in many cases, although many will work perfectly OK on a hot supply also.

That apart, I suspect your machine’s inlet/safety valve is the source of the humming noises you experience. It may be due to insufficient pressure and would be worth trying a mains pressure cold feed to confirm.

Replacement inlet/safety valves are readily available but very costly 🙁

Oh crikey, you don’t need to blow into a washing machine to get it to play a tune 😆

I expect the motor won’t turn or the belt has snapped maybe? Set it to spin only and tell us what exactly happens. Better still stick it on a rinse & spin cycle and report back 😉

Easy way to be sure is to NOT put any fabric conditioner in the compartment. Instead put a dry broken biscuit or similar in that compartment. Set it to “Rinse & Spin” then see what’s happened to the biscuit??

I sincerely hope you’re right and I am wrong Kevin for your sake and all who are dependant on this type of work. I’m not in that position as well you know but all I ask is that you take note of my concerns and comments, especially the bit about about cutting out the middleman.

The well is running dry my friend and it’s time to drill another borehole 😉 😉

julibob wrote:but is there no way of checking first?

Of course there is, but that involves removing parts and checking them with a meter. That’s what we do in the trade after all and whilst I cannot advise or provide details, it’s a simple task for anyone with a modicum of electrical knowledge and experience to perform.

If you give me the full model number and serial number (on the door hinge) I can at least show you how to obtain the parts you need 🙂

I would be an interesting exercise to establish national and even regional ‘per job’ costings I agree. But you have to be so very careful what you actually do with that information once it’s collated.

The idea of getting a handful of manufacturers, insurance agents and pin-stripped suited wp’s in one room and springing that fact one them is not the way to go about it though. Besides they are all too aware of the increasing costs that everyone is forcefully subjected to by an ever spiralling downturn in the High Street price of whitegoods.

Those ‘admin costs’ they work to will never be compromised as well you know. Their continued pressure put upon each and everyone for 1st time completion and an ever lowering BER rate will only get worse. Spouting facts about the agents costs will only antagonise them further and possibly even promote a greater ‘divide’. Besides, as it stands, you can only use this information to adopt a “please sir, I want some more” approach at best!

kheath wrote:In December we became aware of a manufacturer and an insurance work provider, both seeking help with the setting up of networks, using individual businesses therefore cutting out the “admin fee”.

Now this on the other hand is the only real solution to the problem, by approaching manufactureres and insurance companies directly. As indeed the likes of Connect did not so very long ago and they created CDSL virtually overnight to become a giant in the business that we all now seem to regret for some reason (I wonder why?).

We have simply to ‘cut out the middle man’ as the one and only solution to our problem. The big problem with that as I see it, is that UKW by accident or design has alienated and embarrassed these manufacturers over the last 3 years by all the traffic that has passed its many forums and topics. I find it difficult to imagine we could kiss and make up to them? Whirlpool for example have been put through the UKW wringer big time in that time so I can’t see them coming round to that idea?

Finally, please consider those businesses that would really not want you to rattle too many cages for them. They are ‘keeping their heads down’ and working the system thank you very much. They will be less than pleased to find wp’s imposing greater sanctions on them at this moment in time.

    SOFTLY SOFTLY ! 😉

I think you have bu&&ered it (excuse the phraseology – trade term and all that!)…..You have fried the board I’m afraid…..I’ve seen it before and usually caused by a DIY’er putting the brushes in incorrectly and not meggering the brush housing before reassembly… 🙁
