ParticipantRe: creda oven
Jack,
Not clear on the oven you describe as we work on manufacturers model numbers 😕 However, it is a general rule that ‘Oven Lamp Lenses’ unscrew ANTI-clockwise in the main.
First do please switch off the oven from the main switch before attempting a bulb replacement. In difficult cases as this may be the case, a little application of ‘WD40’ directed at the thread part of the lense cover will help. Leave for an hour or two, then with a slighly dampened J Cloth give it a hearty twist (Anti-clockwise don’t forget) that should do the trick 😉
Replace with the correct ‘oven lamp’, clean away any WD40 and the jobs done

ParticipantRe: Frost free – are they worth it?
Nixx,
Frost Free Fridges and Fridge Freezers are very sophisticated these days, they are extremely efficient too. Noise levels only slightly higher than the more conventional cooling systems.
I am sure you would be a proud owner of such a device and indeed get a quiet nights sleep 🙂
And it’s goodbye to the need for regular defrosting too as they don’t require that inconvenience either 😀

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WM Series Armatures OBSOLETE!
John,
Your comments are very welcome indeed, in fact they have prompted me to discover it appears that the 161498 Armature is no longer produced and stocks have been exhaused since Brians post (Jun 23rd) at Hotpoint. Homespares then have still plenty of stock at least 🙂 The ‘pattern’ armature (ARM20) produced by Qualtex appears to be the only substitute and from my experience at least is a worthy substitute 😉
The argument over the ‘quality’ of pattern spares is guaranteed to prompt a heated debate from all quarters, and it certainly has been discussed at length within many UKW pages. “Dodgy Dealers” and “Rogue Repairers” are always cited as the main protagonists and will continue to be so ad infinitum 🙁
You may recall a short while ago I pointed out the extortionate price of Hotpoints 1603030 Hinge Bearing Kit at £2.50 + VAT. Qualtex produce a pattern equivalent (D/R43) at a much more realistic price of 56p + VAT* and I can assure you that quality is not compromised. In fact, quite the contrary as it is made from a more flexible polyurathene composite material that is easier to fit and less likely to ‘pinch’ and break the hinge nipple off.
Fitting Hotpoints genuine 1600474 Laminated Brushes is no guarantee that they won’t melt or burn out prematurely either. In recent months I have noticed they are produced out of varying types of plastic material :con: . Some are made in a distinct ‘grey’ colour and others are a kind of brown coloured plastic 😯 I am not sure as yet of their ‘flammability factor’ but I am sure they will set a few smoke alarms off somewhere soon enough 🙁

* and in case it occured to some readers that I may reselling these at Hotpoints ludicrous ‘RRP’, you will be dissappointed to learn I make a modest 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} mark-up on the quality pattern spares I supply and fit, with a full 12 months warranty. The Local Trading Standards Office did ask for this assurance incidentally as part of my being one of their registered approved traders.

That’ll be sooner rather than later then 😆
It is incredible the number of customers with machines in sheds and damp garages these days. The main reason is that they turf the washing machine out of the kitchen because they need the space to stick in a new DISHWASHER :con:

Really bad news all round on this I’m afraid. Both the Instruction Book and the Control Panel Fascia for this model are both OBSOLETE 🙁
I seriously doubt if anybody has such information, but you never know, someone may surprise us 😉

ParticipantRe: What is it with Zanussi washing machine drum bearings?
rob marshall wrote:So, why is it the bearings like to fail on these Zanussis????
Not just Zanussi’s, as Hotpoint can hold well in that department 😉
Most premature bearing failure is due in the main to a combination of badly designed inferior quality materials being used, coupled with an added touch of limescale, fluff and detergent ingress and just a dash of user overloading and BINGO!!! …time to buy a new machine 😆

ParticipantRe: Neff S5543X1GB/13 Dishwasher no fill
RocLobsta,
Most likely the base of the machine is flooded 🙁 Best way to check this is to tip the machine backwards about 45 degrees to allow any water to drain out of the back (have a towel handy) *
Now if water does come out it usually means it has either an internal leak OR a water inlet blockage. Neither of which is considered a DIY fix, so you will need to call in one of us guys to take a look for you 🙂
Meanwhile you should find the machine will work quite normally, until it floods the base again 😯

Incidentally, did you ever hear Bob Newhart and his brilliant sketch on “Defusing a Bomb?” (Perhaps not, a bit before your time I expect 😆 ) but I liked the part where he says (over the phone) to the guy trying(on site) to defuse the bomb. “Boy! Sure are a lot of wires in that baby are’nt there?….Anyway, one wire is kind of a bluish grey…and the other is a kind of greyish blue??????” :rotl:

ParticipantRe: hotpoint condenser drier help
Knobby,
The easy way to work out which goes to which is that the ‘Cycling Thermostat’ ( that’s the unmarked one of the 2 which sits on the R/H/Side as you look at it from the back 😉 ) is connected to one Brown wire that goes straight to the element. The other end of the same stat should either be a single brown or a single orange.
The two wires remaining therefore go to the ‘One Shot’ t/stat on the L/H/Side (the one with the Green dot on it). 😀

ParticipantRe: thermostat for electrolux BW195 dishwasher
Simon,
Oh dear! I think you may be out of luck on this through obsolescence 🙁
However I do recall there are 2 stats, both fit into the sump in the base. One is the Thermostat (Part No : 1501879009) which sits by the Element and the other close by which is the Overheat Protector (Part No: 1502555004).As far as I know they may well be obsolete 🙁
Perhaps someone else on the site may have some old stock on a dusty shelf though ❓
