Does this fault normally throw up any fault codes?

    Re: The Price Of Fuel

    The tactics seem to be

    1. A big increase because opec or a war or futures players have caused oil per barrel to shoot up
    2. It then returns slowly to just above the pre-crisis level but never below.
    3. It then creeps slowly back to the ‘crisis’ level.

Its a way of softening up the market (us) so that we become used/resigned to the idea

Old Hat for many engineers here, but I just discovered soldering flux

    http://uk.farnell.com/cooper-tools-weller/0051383199/flux-bottle/dp/1572843?Ntt=157-2843

which I believe works by cleaning and removing oxides from the soldered surfaces.

Point is it has made a big difference for me when it comes to soldering burnt relay posts etc. the solder sticks first time no problem.

I apply it with a fine hard bristly brush and give the job, the compnent and the solder a bit of a scrub with the flux. Works like magic

    WMA Boards

When these refuse to start up it is often the tiny little start button that has come de-soldered sometimes even drop off all together.
Just re-solder in place and off they go.
On occasion, with permission of the customer, I have pinched one of the option buttons to replace the on/off where the old switch could’nt be found..

Re: just when you think you have heard it all

A year ago I went to the home of a local celeb who’s washing machine needed a new pump.

He was out but his missus was there and I did the job, charged £60 and left.

A few months later, Im called back to SAME 5 year old machine but the guy is angry because his NEW washing machine has broken down and his wife has lost the receipt, and anyway she won’t wait for whirlpool to call out!..

I, of course am a tad puzzled but this guys wife is pulling face’s at me, big eyes 😯 at me and looking 😳

So I placate the guy and once he leaves the room she hurriedly explains that she had £300 off him for a new machine after my last visit and he was oblivious!

I, of course, as a gentleman was bound to keep quite, patient confidentiality and all that, but i did manage to share in the proceeds 👿

and you thought all the action was down at Listeria Lane !

No one is gonna believe this one :rolls: but here goes…

Another old lady insisted her Hoover upright Vac was broke because when she switched it on it did’nt make any sound.

I had to shout VERY LOUDLY to her that it was indeed working just fine, to which she replied….

“Ay, yer what, speak up sonny”! 😯

Was called to a house where..I Kid you not.. the old lady told me the washing machine was faulty because it kept filling up and then emptying :rolls:

Could not convince her it was meant to do that, I can still remember her wrath at my incompetence… 😯

Use a junior hacksaw blade as a scraping tool to clean off and roughen up the shiny surface of clutch shoes.

Also roughen up the inside of the clutch pulley housing where the clutch shoes are thrown against. Make sure of course no grease or other contamination gets on any of the clutch parts.

Re: How would you design a washing machine?

I actually spent a couple of years designing, then building experimental washing machines, Got the photos somewhere which were taken on a sony mavica ( the digital equivelant of a box brownie) so the photos are on floppy discs (anyone got a disc drive) ❓

The main thrust of the idea was an under counter machine with a drum vertically suspended on bearings (no bearing seal required, hardly) a pump fixed to the bottom of the tank and an instant hot water heater.

Used to spend many a happy deluded hour in me nutty proffesors workshop pinching parts off boat engines, welding drums etc.

    Ahh those were the days…..

    😀

I actively encourage customers new and old to text me these days.

What a time saver, a long winded conversation can be replaced with a quick text in both dirctions, and for those conversations that crop up again and again you can have templates such as Running a bit late. Be there as soon as poss. Regards. Joe Bloggs.
Customers love it and most mobile packages these days include 4 or 5 hundred free texts per month

You do get the odd one though that you have to send off for analysis at bletchly park 😕

could it be an out of balance load? ie 1 or 2 large items?
