    Re: Recon boards

I tend to point out that the recon. boards carry a guarantee whereas new boards are often only guaranteed if fitted by the manufacturers engineer or agent.

    Re: Too Hasty

Just had a call about an LG washing machine showing an OE error. I said I would look up the error code online before I came to the job. Customer asked if it was likely to need any parts ordered. I said I can’t tell at this stage but admitted I don’t keep many LG parts in stock. She then said she would not bother with the repair but would get a new machine as she realised parts orders would take longer this time of year. I just looked up the error code and it just means pump blockage / failure. The pump is probably one of the few bits I have got but I can’t ring her back as she withheld her number. :bang:

I am indebted to Andy (Specialist01269) who has given me a spare Avo multimeter he had. I had been managing with an old automotive multimeter I won years ago in a competition but it was not ideal as there were no AC ranges. Thanks Andy.

It is doomed to failure, like when Austin Rover decided to make a new hatchback based on the Montego front end with a Maestro City back end. Apparently the Monstrocity never got beyond the prototype stage.

Still on NZ time, hence the odd time for posting this. Was just reading my insurance policy and it seems I’m not covered for house contents held for business use. I suggest anyone reading this check their own cover. Even if you have Tools of Trade insurance it might not cover spares stocks.

    Re: Too Hasty

I often get asked to supply replacement knobs, handles, hinges etc but so often the customer has thrown away the old part and there is some ambiguity about the correct one. Sometimes you go with the correct part and they have thrown away the special screws that hold it on. 👿

Setting off on the long haul flight to New Zealand on Monday but have to get to Heathrow which is quite an undertaking in itself. I bought a new set of bathroom scales today so I could weigh the luggage. Brief panic when I came up with a figure of 21.8 kg as I thought the limit was 20 kg. Looking at the airline website it looked like I might be charged £47/kg for excess baggage 8O. I then realised the 20 kg limit is for checked in luggage, I can take an additional 7 kg as hand luggage 🙂

Bargain! To me it would be £144.74 😯 😯 Whirlpool spares prices are a joke. :rolls:

Probably something like a nail or bra wire stopping it turning. Best bet would be to remove the complete pump/filter assembly from the machine, detach the pump itself and remove the obstruction from the pump end of the housing. You may need to remove the cabinet front to get adequate access. As always, plug out before any dismantling.

An extra washer on the spindle between drum and back panel usually helps.

Received the Masterpart one and it’s exactly the same as I got from Homespares. 😥

Re: To stock or not to stock?

One approach is to order 2 when you need 1 but only for common makes and only if the price seems OK. I usually do this if I don’t have the correct belt, hinge, handle, pump, interlock, carbons etc. You will get bombarded with special offer leaflets by the suppliers and these can be useful if you need to build up your order value to get free delivery. Often the discounted parts are popular lines but you do need to establish which makes are popular in your area. For example, I often see questions about Samsung appliances but I’ve never seen one round here.
