Participantcawright1uk wrote:Hi Dave, thanks for that. Actually, on checking, it’s apparent that the washing cycle is also staying cold. The clothes are stone cold after its spin. So, is there an a component that controls both heating elements? Or a fuse possibly?
If that’s after the final spin then it’s normal as it will have rinsed them in cold water. You need to check part way through the wash cycle to see if it’s heating.

ParticipantI’m looking for a Beko right now but John Lewis have been out of stock for a few weeks. I’d like to go with them for the extra year’s warranty. Luckily our ancient Bosch is currently behaving again after being threatened with retirement so no immediate hurry. 🙂

ParticipantI’d say the most likely candidate is the heater. As for question two, how much a Miele charging to fix?
tubafan
ParticipantI’d say that what you are seeing is pretty normal. I think there’s always a small amount of detergent left, even after rinsing, but it shouldn’t cause any issues. If the machine has an ‘allergy’ or ‘extra rinse’ option then that will get some more out but will also use more water of course.

ParticipantI’d sort the programming part first before trying anything else as otherwise you might be chasing a fault that isn’t there.

ParticipantI’d be taking the base off and continuity checking the switch that detects the carafe. I doubt a filter coffee maker can be all that complicated (famous last words!).

ParticipantThanks Don, that’s a good point on the Hotpoint board programming issue. 🙂

Participantandyjawa, totally agree with everything you have said. With respect to your Hotpoint washing machine example, yes, why can’t we have a nice basic machine that just does what it needs to do – ie washes cloths. It doesn’t need to be high-tech to do the job well, and as you say a simple, quailty machine will last longer and be repairable when required. I suspect the problem we have got ourselves into is that machines are so comparatively cheap nowadays that the manufacturers need to keep shifting high volumes to make a decent profit. I would much rather pay more for a well built but simple machine if I knew it was going to last.
I am going to be in this dilemma soon with my dishwasher, as my current Bosch (a mere 21 years old, bless it) is looking like it will soon need to be retired. Looking at current models I’m struggling to find a simple but robust machine. Most of the ‘high end’ ones seem to have lots of features and complexity that I neither want nor need, and I’m not convinced that the build quality is that much better than something like a basic Beko machine for example. I’m also horrified that the ‘eco’ programmes now take in excess of 3 hours to run whereas my current Bosch takes about 1.5 hours. It’s little wonder that things don’t last as long if they are running for twice the amount of time on each use. I just want something simple that does a decent job of washing the dishes and doesn’t take all day to do it, but perhaps that is too much to ask!!tubafan
ParticipantI believe some Hitachi TVs are made by Vestel so it’d be worth trying their codes.

ParticipantAargh – third time lucky – https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/public/manuals/Gorenje-GS65260XAU-Freestanding-Dishwasher-User-Manual.pdf . Why is there no ‘edit post’ option!
tubafan
ParticipantThis Gorenje manual appears to be for a very similar machine and does have option 5:01, which is self clean. It says to close the door and let it run, so I don’t know if that’ll work with yours.

ParticipantAs this is a simple upright freezer I’m struggling to get my head around how the top can be colder than the bottom – it seems to defy physics! As the lower coiling coils are not getting very cold it does sound like a refrigeration fault unfortunately. Doubtless other more knowledgeable members will confirm.

ParticipantAre you sure it only has a 12 month warranty as some sites I looked at say it is 24 months – eg – AO.com

ParticipantThat’s not good at all. Our HAE61KS is just over 6 and is still perfect, so I’m not sure if you’ve been unlucky or we’ve been lucky.

ParticipantThat’s good news, it’s just a shame it took impending court action to bring Currys to their senses.
