ParticipantRe: pannellable dishwasher door
Years ago, the company I used to work for did large quantities of ‘X’ grade dishwashers, some damaged on the front door panel. We would fit a decor panel (then Formica) to the door using aluminium angle readily available from B&Q.
Firstly, this only works on a flat dishwasher door.
Take the dishwasher outer door panel off, cut the decor panel to size (less 3mm WxH). Fix in position with double sided tape.
Then measure the angle starting at the underside of the facia. Plot where the corner bends will be and aim to get the final join down at the bottom in the centre of the door. At the corners, mark where the bend should be and using a square file on its edge, cut an even ‘V’ shape through the smaller lip of the angle down as far as it will go. Then put a junior hacksaw in the ‘V’ and make a shallow cut to ease bending. When bent, the ‘V’ cut should close up to a near perfect corner.
Do the same for the other angles, cut off any excess length, drill your mounting holes and screw the angle to the door around the panel.Hope this helps; we did loads and they looked really good (and all sold)!!!

ParticipantRe: thomson twintub
Our local Qualtex agent has a t/tub on display in their trade counter area. Don’t think it’s a Thompson though. It’s a plastic body machine and looks similar (on top) to the old Servis t/t, but has a ‘retro’ rounded moulded case.
I’m not sure if Qualtex supply it, if not, post me a PM and I can find out for you. I seem to remember it was keenly priced too. 😉Steve.

To find out what that module controls – phone EMW on (01159)652118. They recon them – they will know. Also the cheapest and quickest way of obtaining a replacement module (next day delivery). 😉
Hope this helps!!!

ParticipantRe: Poor wash complaints, new Hotpoint
Customer tried 2 service washes at both 60 and 90 degrees – also got her to run it through on 60 degree wash with soda crystals as well – problem still apparent. 😯
So, I resigned myself to the fact that a strip down of the machine and a manual clean out was the ONLY way I could guarantee that the de-gunking (love that word!!) was successful.
Actually, there was very little to clean out when it was stripped down – no more than you would expect from a machine lightly used by 2 mid-seventies pensioners. 😕 So I took the machine back and gave them my special ‘chapter and verse, belt and braces sermon’ on the use of a washing machine.
But the damn thing is doing it again!! 👿 And the machine could not possibly get gunked up in that time; clean filter et all.
Trouble is, when you have been so thorough, your options and explanations become limited. I will ring them next week and see how it’s going – if it’s still bad, I’ll try and get a towel off them for you to test.aqualectric
ParticipantRe: Poor wash complaints, new Hotpoint
Interesting thread….. as I have an ongoing problem with a 2 year old Zanussi jetsystem with exactly the same problem!! 😯 Crisp, rough towels would normally suggest a blockage, pump (or recirc pump) maybe detergent over-use. Not in this case! Everything checked out OK on first visit; even the heater.
Finally, I took the machine into the workshop after exhausting all the usual suspects for this fault; stripped and cleaned every part of the machine and rebuilt it. That was late last year.
Wednesday PM this week had to return to be told that the problem is still apparent and the customer has even tried different powders (even Bold 2 in 1). The towels were like a hedgehog’s backside! The only variable in her wash method was her sporadic use of conditioner; she only added it “when she remembered to”. 😯
I told her to use conditioner on every wash- there seemed no other explanation.
If it’s not a mechanical or electrical or ‘method’ fault what can it be?? This is a hard water area but this machine is, well, unique!! 👿
Great to find an answer…………………. 😕aqualectric
ParticipantRe: Does size matter?
I had this problem several times and there is a Lux element available (genuine only I think) that is slightly larger than the generic ‘small bracket Philips’/Candy element you are probably using. I carry one as stock now as it is an easier option than modifying the generic type.
BUT….then had a problem with one of these genuine ones moving slightly in use (the element will ‘swing’ side to side in its mounting bracket as this is only crimped on to the element) and it fouled the fan after several uses. Only answer was to drill a small hole in the oven back panel to locate the bottom mounting lug centrally. Sorted!!! 8)
This element is on Connections part no. 5031685147099 @ £14.65 + vat; AND there is a pattern equivalent I’ve just found – ELE4532 @ £6.29 + vat.
Hope this helps!!!Steve.

ParticipantRe: Bosch SGS53C02GB/15 dishwasher not cleaning
Thanks for the info Greg, I’ll check with the customer on that guarantee situation – just would be nice to know what the root fault is. I hate leaving problems unsolved even if calling the manufacturer is the easiest way out of the dilemma. 🙁

ParticipantRe: Please help me write about the ISE washing machine
Lots of customers over the years have used ‘Which?’ as a benchmark resource when buying an appliance, especially a washing machine. Could we bring the ISE to the attention of Which? and see that when it is placed against other machines in this ‘unbiased’ medium, it would rival or better them. Few customers question Which?’s integrity so could this be good exposure for our new brand and it’s forward thinking ethos?? 8)
Just a thought…………………………….aqualectric
ParticipantRe: dishwasher spilling water
Check the rotors for splits along their seams – during wash the pressure in the rotor can open up a split and spray copious amounts of water straight at the door bottom seal causing large intermittent leaks. Door seal will show no signs of failure. Leak ‘timing’ will generally be equal to the speed of the turning rotor .
Common on Hotpoint machines. 😉aqualectric

Thanks, Flyman! Just wanted to be sure my waffled explanation to the customer was accurate. 😆

ParticipantRe: zan TD stat
Yep’ that’s the one! Fits above the door in the front plastic moulding holding the filter.
There is a plastic plate holding the stat in place with 2 screws – remove these and the stat should come out with a bit of persuasion with a screwdriver ( it is a very snug fit in the hole). Replacement is a reversal of removal ( to quote a Haynes manual!!). Sometimes a mirror can help. 😉

ParticipantRe: Neff fan oven
Is the fan getting up to speed? Hot at the top seems to suggest heat rising due to it not being circulated fast enough by the fan. These fan motors take a few moments to get up to speed; I’ve had a couple run slow – similar fault.
Hope this helps!! 😉

ParticipantRe: Error codes needed for Ariston A1636
Check the motor brushes; any uneven wear or sticking in the holders can cause filling and programme ‘abort’ faults. Can also cause the valves to go dead!! 😉
Hope this helps,Steve.
