That’s a point, Oldtog did turn up to the meeting looking a bit scruffy 😉 Those UKW T Shirts sure made him look better presented 😆

Glad you enjoyed the meeting Andy, as you probably gathered UKW is developing all the while in an ‘onwards & upwards’ direction. 😉 Your contribution is very much appreciated and thanks for the comments 🙂

The hotel at Sibson will be the likely venue for our next meeting (I expect) where the bar will stay open as long as you can keep buying the drinks!!! 😆

😆 My thanks go to the ‘Directors’ for putting up with my company at the meeting and to ‘Directors Bitter’ for my hangover 😆

    Chippy,

It is likely the Motor Brushes are shorting to earth (usual thing for its age) and will need replacing I guess by now. Not an expensive repair and a simple job for a local engineer to sort for you 😉

If you let us have the full model number AND the PNC number (9 digits beginning with 9** *** ***) will can be more specific as to the likely cost 🙂

The problem will be as Toni has suggested and you need to check that out OR better still get an engineer in to do it 😉

Put 3 heaped tablespoons of Bicarbonate of Soda in the drum, then set it on a 60 degree wash cycle. Also wipe clean all the folds and crevices of the door gasket with a damp cloth and a bit of that Bicarb.

Take Dispenser Drawer fully out and clean inside the cavity. Finally, regular 60 washes will reduce the problem, and take care not to use too much detergent 😉

Drilling them out is one way! The other is to apply heat with a blow torch to the bolt, then douse them quickly with WD40 to cool down rapidly, you stand a better change then! 😉

    Steve,

The only thing you can try is to carry out a ‘Programme Reset’. The instruction booklet will show you how that is done. (I assume there is power to the machine?)

Failing that I’m afraid you will have to get a replacement machine as it could be an internal fault 🙁

Nice thought Kevin, but unfortunately he doesn’t even wear a white coat at work, or work in a laboratory. He’s a company director (pharmaceuticals/biologicals/medical equipment etc) and sits at a computer all day long!

Don’t think so Chris. My customer is certain the problem is caused by the Finish Cleaner and needs to get a sample from the machine to get tested. I have ordered a new Salt Cap for his machine so he can cut the old one in half and send one half to Reckitts (Finish) for testing and retain the other half as ‘evidence’ ????

3 years ago he used another (older) Bosch dishwasher, in the exact same location, using the exact same salt/rinse aid and detergent without problems. The new machine was fine for the first 18 months/2 years after which time he started using this Finish Cleaner and from then on the darned insides of the machine started to turn BLUE. He did not associate that occurance at all until today when I suggested it could be the Finish causing the problem?

But, why should THAT be the problem? I don’t understand, and feel there is something WE are overlooking here?? BUT WHAT ???

    It’s a bl**dy fascinating mystery that’s for sure!

    Stuart,

You know, you have brought up an interesting point here in your case. Drum Lifter has broken, is fully covered by an ‘5 Year parts GUARANTEE’ and is easily fitted to a machine without the need for tools by anyone. So why, in the interest of good customer relations, didn’t Hotpoint apologise for the inconvenience and send you a replacement ‘free off charge’????

If they did, how would you feel about them and their product I wonder?

    r11co,

Many thanks for sharing that horror story with us. Your experience doesn’t go unnoticed and I hope all future purchases of washing machine prove more rewarding for you and yours.

My heart goes out to Merloni though for all the stress they must have endured in order NOT to resolve your problem. At least 2 Merloni engineers now will not be able to sleep at night knowing they failed to fix your machine 😯

But you and I have other ideas I’m sure 😉

…. but Hey! think of it as a positive step in realising todays technological breakthrough in washing machine design does literally ends up on tomorrows rubbish tip (well similar timescale at least)…the only winners in this case are those that made and sold it to you. Now think of the future…..what to buy as a replacement?

I still swear by Bosch and not at Bosch, so you might take that as a recommendation from someone who is at least “in the know” 😉

    Happy washdays!

Sorry Chris cannot shed any light on this problem, but having looked up the model on BSH’s web site, it just appears to be a normal machine??

I don’t see any “Motorised Distributor Unit” on the Heater Box 😕

    Yours mystified,
