Might be worth using washing tablets instead of powder and putting them in a net bag in the drum.

If she has got 20 odd years out of the original set of brushes that must be some kind of record. I would suggest she just gets it overhauled (new brushes, belt, door seal, possibly new bearings and sticks with a loyal workhorse. Some friends of mine run a similar old Hotpoint but it gets a lot more use and has had a lot more repairs, including patches to the cracked base where the suspension units bolt on.

I’ve sometimes had customers who have bought the part and asked me to fit it. I’ve known them to pay as much for an element as I would have charged them to supply AND fit the thing!

Ah, that’s good news! The cable coming into the machine should go initially to a cylindrical component, the mains suppressor/filter. Sometimes these just have spade terminals for input and output but some machines have other arrangements. Sometimes you are meant to change the whole assembly including mains cable but I normally just fit a universal type suppressor, cut off any burnt sections of wire and fit new spade terminals as required. As before, plug out first :plug:

Thanks Brian. I found it had blown the internal fuse. The blown one was a 12 amp but the markings on the fuse holder suggest it should be a 20 amp. The info you sent also mentions a 20 amp fuse. I normally carry a few microwave 30mm fuses but only up to 10 amp. I put in a 13 amp plug fuse and tried it but it blew as soon as we tried to turn on a ring. Customer says that it tripped the MCB when all 4 rings were on and a pan boiled over but I saw no evidence of water ingress. It is not easy to work on due to the way it’s constructed so I didn’t strip it after it blew the replacement fuse. I’ve therefore not had any circuit boards off to check for damage on the undersides. Rear tub will come complete with bearings and water seal and you will most likely need the front tub ( 217424) as you have to cut the locking nibs to seperate the old tub halves therefore rendering it u/s.
I would also replace the suspension legs (448032 the pair) as the new ones are more substantial.
Make sure you dont forget to fit them onto locating pegs of tub before offering the two halves of tank together 👿 been there and have got the t-shirt :rolls:

Since I heard about the welded tubs on the newer Zanussi machines I have been recommending Bosch. Are you saying the newer Bosch machines are also effectively scrap when the bearings fail?

Need to check with the meter there’s 240 volts under load, a test screwdriver can be misleading. Also known a pin of the 13 amp plug to weld itself in the socket.

    Re: worcester bosch combi boiler

What pressure did you put in? I have the same boiler which I run at 1 Bar. There is a knob on the pressure release valve (situated inside on the far left, above the safety discharge outlet) If you turn that anticlockwise you can release water from the system to reduce the pressure.

If you don’t have access to a microwave leakage meter it’s probably best to leave them alone.

Yes, looks like the belt has come off. The other bits are probably just discarded transit screws from when it was installed. Often if the belt comes off it’s because the drum bearings have failed, allowing the drum pulley to wobble.

Are you sure it’s not WTL6102GB/01? I’ve not done one but it looks like you get the cabinet front off and it’s then quite easy.
