Thanks Alan, I looked at the main module in the side of the machine and there was no visible damage but do you mean the display module? I will send you a PM.

My mother had one of these as her first proper washing machine after a Burco boiler. She had nothing but bother with it so it was dumped in favour of a Hoover twintub after 3 or 4 years.

I’ve just disabled the automatic sign in bit but I don’t know if it will stay disabled. I previously disabled the bit that automatically opens the messenger main window (the one with news & stuff) each time but it reset the preferences so it came back. 😡

    Re: MSN Messenger Live

My old PC died about a week ago so I had to install Messenger on the replacement machine. I don’t like the new software. I can’t send photos or files to people on the old software and I can’t seem to set my default status as “appear offline” like I did with the old version. Every time I go online for a few seconds to check something I have to remember to set my status to “away” before I disappear to do other things. 🙁

If you can reproduce the fault condition, check for 240 at the transformer primary then work back or forward from there.

    Re: Hotpoint WF220

Looked at customers module today and it has a surface mount EEPROM soldered to the board so can’t be readily swapped onto another module. Rang EMW and they tell me you can’t swap boards/ EEPROMs because different ones have different relays. Apparently the new boards you buy come with everything fitted so they will work a range of models but the original build will contain a module with only just the bits needed for that machine. Also, because the old EEPROM can’t be unplugged you need to order a new one to go with the new board, even if the old one was OK.

    Re: Hotpoint WF220

Thanks, I’ve just discovered that it uses the same board as the WF440 with just a different EEPROM. I still have such a board as I’m waiting for new wiring loom sections on backorder. I will try the other board and see what happens. I assume the EEPROM is the 8 pin chip that plugs into a socket?

My Velocette LE is much quieter than any rattly Hoover six 😉 Welcome to the forum, FZR. I went to one of these this afternoon with one of the front weight screws snapped off. I think the customer thought I would just fetch a new screw from the van and screw it in. Not that easy, I explained, tub out job and a new tub front required as well as the screw. I tightened the 2 remaining screws as tight as I dared and the customer will let me know if she wants the job done properly 🙄

Thanks for that, Tinhips. This confirms what I suspected, I can’t now sign off the certificates unless I subscribe to an approved organisation and pay megga bucks for the privilege.

    Re: My New Kitchen

This is probably not the best site to ask about integrated appliances as they are a nightmare for the repairer. My record is 2 hours to renew a leaky inlet hose on a washing machine, 2 minutes working on the repair, 1hr 58 dismantling and rebuilding the kitchen 😉

    HUNG CHOW CALLS IN SICK
Hung Chow calls in to work and says, “Hey, boss I not come work today, I really sick. I got headache, stomachache, and my legs hurt. I not come work.”

The boss says, “You know Hung Chow, I really need you today. When I feel like this, I go to my wife and tell her to give me sex. That makes everything better and then I can go to work. You try that.”

Two hours later Hung Chow calls again: “Boss, I do what you say and I feel great. I be at work soon … you got nice house.”

    Re: Part P effect?

Thanks Kenny. I have been trying to find something more official, these sort of advice/forum things could be regarded as heresay. I am still doing wiring work at the moment but I’m not sure if I am still allowed to sign the electrics certificate for Building Warrants. I signed such a document a couple of months ago for a new house I wired but the builder has been told that future warrants will be more restrictive regarding who can and cannot sign these certificates. Clearly a lot of people up here have heard about Part P and assume they are no longer allowed to do their own wiring work as I am getting a lot more enquiries for such work.

    Re: Electruepart

In a delivery this morning I received 3 pumps, PMP961. They are shown in the catalogue as complete pumps with the 2 way socket, to suit Hotpoint WMs etc. The ones that came are just the motor section, Plaset 50700, which has seperate spades. When I rang Connect about it the woman I spoke to was quite unpleasant and kept complaining that she couldn’t hear me. When I thought we had dealt with the matter I said that I have another part I would like to return when they collect the pumps. “Lets just deal with one thing at a time, shall we” was her reply . She did also arrange for collection of the other part but I have to pack it in another box with another returns number. By the time the call was over I wished I hadn’t bothered, perhaps that was the intention 😡

Sorry, should have explained, this is the Indesit type module that lives in the bottom of the machine, not the WMA type where everything is behind the fascia.
